I'm assuming he's being required to bring in a Lane Kiffin, or some top offensive mind to lead the offense, but who?

Eliah Drinkwitz (NC State) young innovative coordinator

Why would Kiffin take a lateral move to come here when he can probably go get a HC job somewhere. Wake up people!

Exactly.

Are we sure that Joe is not working covertly behind the scenes to bring in Herman as OC for $7M per after getting O on the cheap?

well kevin steele did it. besides money talks. 3m a yr to be a coordinator! maybe he does not want to be a head coach. some coaches are better coordinators than coaches. he has failed 3 times at that. everyone gives coach o hell for Mississippi but nobody gives lane hell for the raiders, usc, Tennessee? ijs. so maybe the lateral move may not be that bad. congrats coach o!

He'll have total control of offense and probably make a little more money at LSU.

He was a LB coach and took a promotion to come be the DC at LSU. Not a lateral move

Why dump the OC who helped get you the job?

And work with a former coach/friend and not have to work for and be berated on the sideline by Saban weekly

Kiffin and O are incredibly close.... don't rule it out.

No, it was lateral as DC from LSU to Auburn

I'm sure the admin had discussions w/ Aranda before this hire was made. Unless they are totally incompetent, they realize that he is their greatest asset on staff.
If he is the "mad scientist" advertised and prefers studying film and diagramming game plans over motivating & interacting w/ players, he may be ok w/ the situation.

He makes $714,000 at Bama and did not receive a raise w/ the rest of the staff in 2016.
The position may be a lateral move, but not the $$.
