So What Are Realistic Long Term Expectations for LSU Basketball?

For me, I'll use Dale Brown's example.
In his 25 years, he got LSU to the postseason 60 percent of the time. Yes, two of the fourteen years were NIT bids, but I will count them, since it was harder to make the NCAA's in the early 80's.
I'm not going to be biased and remove the first years when he was building the program or those last four losing seasons, before which he should have retired.
So my expectations for Johnny Jones or any future LSU coach? Get this team to the NCAA Tournament 60 percent of the time--a little over once every other year.
I won't tack on any other requirements for SEC championships, Final Fours, Elite Eights, etc. If we make the Dance most of the time, the rest will take care of itself.
Kentucky fired Tubby Smith because he went 9 years without making a Final Four, even though he went deep in the tourney several times. We're probably decades away from those kind of expectations.
But any future coaches should be getting us to the tourney as much as Dale Brown did, without expectations on how Dale's teams performed once they got there.
That's reasonable. And we all know Johnny Jones isn't going anywhere anytime soon. So let's see how he lives up to these expectations.

There is no long term Basketball. Next year is just a fluke with the high touted recruits we have. If you want to look long term. Just hope that we have another fluke/freak recruiting class within the next 8 years

Yeah, because all the work Johnny and his staff did in getting these players makes it a fluke. Go frick yourself.

Top 4 program in the conference and a tournament bid. That should be the annual expectation, IMO.

Hoping for a NCAA tourney invite for most years

If we can get some depth then things will get better. You can't win with 6 Div 1 players. Our late game disappearances Is due to fatigue more than any other variable. Need to get depth and in a bad way.

Is there reason to think the 2016 class at least wont be pretty good? JJ has recruited well almost every year he's been here. 2015 class is special, but so was the 2013 class, and the 2014 class brought a hidden gem in thus far with Patterson.

I know reality is hard to deal with and sometimes hurts to face. A lot of people use anger when they dont want to deal with reality. Do yourself a favor and become a Kentucky basketball fan

Wat? The reality is that Johnny Jones has gotten 2 top 10 classes in 3 years. The other was still rated higher then any class his predecessor ever brought in. How is it a fluke if he's done it before?

Nothing is realistic in the rant.

How is next year a fluke when JJ has had a very good recruiting class every single year?

LSU will make the tourney and probably win at least 1 game next season. They will bow out of the tourney much earlier than they should, given the talent. After the studs are one and done, we go back to a perpetual NIT team until Jones is fired.

Martin and Mickey are probably gone, but we have some new talent coming in. I'd say the goal is to make a splash in the tourney by the time this new group of talent leaves LSU - 2/3 years.

Anything less than a tourney bid at this point would be a pretty huge disappointment. You like to think we've had patience with JJ as he builds the program to a perennial contender and tourney team. Not asking too much with LSU's resources.
