and if we had made the tournament does Grewe keep his job? If we had made it in, it wouldn't have corrected of any of the underlying issues.

If we made it in he still goes. Pitching sucked arse and hitting wasn't any better. So no matter what high chance they were/are both gone.

He was gonna lose his job barring a historic run in the tourney, which would probably be sometime next week. Mainieri said during the season big changes were coming.

If not making the tourney is what pushed CPM to fire Grewe than CPM is a fool.

It was clear as day that Grewe was not developing pitchers like Rooney was. Name one pithcer that got better from last year.

For that matter beside Gausmann (who is just raw talent) who got better as the year progressed.

Answer...no one.

It was time for Grewe to go.

Watch out Javi you should be next.

LSU did NOT make it in. Why do you need a hypothetical and then draw some inane conclusion?

IF LSU went undefeated and won the National Title, would Grewe have been 'asked to resign'?

silliness.

What IS: LSU did not make the tourney...Grewe has resigned.

Isn't this site filled with hypotheticals? I didn't need you to point out that LSU did NOT make it in.

I'm not sold on this anymore, he might stay on staff but in a different role. I'd guess he might lose his jobs as the hitting coach, but I wouldn't mind him staying on as the recruiting coordinator if possible.

Its patently stupid to put all the team's woes on the pitching coach. Players have to perform. I think Ott was the one who gave up the lead in the 9th against State, not the pitching coach.

But shouldn't pitchers be getting better? I haven't really seen one case of season to season improvement on this staff in the last two years and that rests solely on the pitching coach

I wish Grewe made a better call in Game 2 against Arkansas though.

Not to state the obvious but it doesn't matter what pitch is called if the pitcher can't throw it to the right spot. If the coach calls for the pitch low and 4" off the plate and pitcher grooves it whos fault is that?

But certainly a good pitching coach should help the boys get better and know what their limitations are.

Grewe was gone regardless because of locker room stuff

Yea, but he called it once, he threw a piss poor pitch. He thinks, maybe it was a fluke, lets try it again. Same result. Why the hell do you call that same pitch a third time knowing he just screwed it up twice?

Bottom line is that guys weren't progressing year to year with Grewe as pitching coach.

I agree, it was time for him to go, just wish Javi would join him, or at least be stripped of 3B coach duties.

He just wasn't developing near enough pitchers. Seems like a much longer list of guys who never really clicked vs. guys that did. Almost all of our good pitchers were just great prospects to begin with.

I am, I'm not saying they aren't gonna fire him/change his role, I was just stating my displeasure with him as well
