A head coach at the college level must demand respect from his players as well as know everything that's going on with his program .

O seems to be a great recruiter (?) and a figure That stand on the sideline and let's his position coaches coach . I truly believe he has no idea what's going on with the X's and O's of the program .

What bothers me the most is that it seemed so obvious the players quit during the game last week , and that is a really bad sign . That means they are not buying into the coaches .

The team got crushed by Miss St and seemed lost. So did the HC. I didn't see much fire from O or most of the team. That is most disappointing.

O is a bad coach. It only took 3 games (and his first game against a real opponent) for that to be put on full display. He was a mistake.

Here's the thing I am afraid is happening:

the players don't respect Orgeron. I doubt he has much input in Aranda's defense, and based on the "I don't know why Guice sat" answer (and the fact that he wasn't around the huddle prior to the last play in the Florida game last year) I don't think he's involved at all with the offense.

He just seems to be "there", hanging out, cheerleading, but clueless. Rah rah rah yaw yaw yaw.

I get the sense that the players don't take him seriously, don't think he's in charge of anything, and don't see him as accountable for anything. I don't think they fear him as such, and that carries over to the preparation and focus they put forth.

That's something that can happen when you elevate a "player's coach" internally, especially if he had no prior authority over them.

Saban ran things like a drill sergeant, Miles was the head man when he came, both had respect. Miles came in and brought them through the trauma of the hurricanes that devastated the area.

Orgeron is goofy Uncle O to these guys, and though they finished last year for him, that was also personal redemption for letting Miles down and getting him fired for losing to Wisky and Auburn.
I think there might be a lax and lazy atmosphere (which would explain all the sloppy play and penalties), and if he tries to ratchet up the discipline after at first being "their buddy" (easier practices, etc), he might lose the team even more.

I hope I'm wrong, because if that's the case, this season could go REALLY bad. People talk about 8-4 ... we could be looking at missing a bowl entirely.

O-line depth is thin, but there are returning starters from a supposed good line last year, and the O line coach remains the same.
That's the #1 problem of the entire football program.

Those that aren't completely clueless understand this.

I haven't but I'll admit I have been very critical due To many factors. Huge game in his inaugural season and the Sec opener. His team looked overwhelmed and that's alarming to say the least. He's had last year and an off-season to prepare his team. He impressed me last year but taking over another coaches team and rallying the troops is much different than taking over as the Ceo. He's proven twice he can take over a team but he's failed at running his own. I hope he turns it around I'm pulling for him

LSU would have never, ever hired a HC with a record of 10-25 (only 2 of those wins came against teams with a winning records both 7-5) and of the 25 losses 15 were double digits.

If O's name was John Smith and he was born in Des Moines, Iowa he would not have sniffed this job.

So for many you must begin with the premise he was a bad hire.

We are talking about a coach who has no track record of success beating good teams. (Only 2 wins against better than .500 teams as a HC)

And his losses 15 of the 25 were double digit blowouts.

Additionally his SEC record was 3-21.

Despite that he is our coach. And in his first conference game as our coach??--an historic loss to Moo State. He is not exactly building trust with fans.

Is it possible 3-21 isn't really 3-21 and 10-25 isn't really 10-25 and .300 winning % coach is really a good coach? Maybe. But honestly would you bet your life on it?

Isn't more likely that O is what he is? A great guy, a stellar DL coach a great recruiter but just doesn't have what it takes to be a successful HC?

Given the number of freshmen in this team you can not blame everything on coaches. Dave Aranda was considered the best DC in the country even by posters on this board, he can not become that bad overnight. If we have good coaches we need to see steady improvement in every game for the rest of the season. In December these freshmen are practically sophomores and there should not be any excuse for making costly mistakes.

You realize the coaches are CHOSING to play those freshman right? If they weren't ready they shouldn't have played.

We are not low in schollys or something..we have plenty of players without playing a single freshman.

Are you serious right now? We could've found 40 existing head coaches with a winning record and all of them would've been better hires than O

It's like everyone was kissing his arse the first couple games to wanting him sent to North Korea 24 hours later. Unreal. How many passes did Leslie get?

LSU should, and I repeat, should NEVER lose to MSU by 30. Get beat yes..... but lose by 30 never!

Orgeron is in way over his head. He sucks as a full time head coach. Interim coach is completely different.
