Nevis, Downs, Logan, and maybe Davenport?

Unless Blackmon turns into some kind of diamond in the rough that blossoms immediately (not Miles' strength), then we are an injury away from being completely screwed at DL IF Davenport even stays at DT.

The fact we did not pick up a top notch DT this year, really will hurt us THIS season. Long term it could be a minor blip, but why are we struggling so much to recruit DT talent that actually 1) comes to LSU and 2) STAYS at DT?

Are LSU recruiting another DT to replace Marsh?

Some more will be moved there. I believe Chancy will get moved to the inside as well. If we land Ego or the Tenn lineman, they'll likely be DTs too.

the general thought is that Brockers and Pep will move inside...possible Hagans could move back as well.

I think after the great DL we got last year it won't hurt us.

I like Nevis and Downs at DT, Montgomery at one DE and either Edwards/Chancey at the other DE.

Davenport will most likely work his way in at DT and possibly start. But that's just my guess, I'm probably way off. I've heard a lot of good things about Brocker as well.

JC Copeland from Georgia, and Brandon Jackson from in-state, are visiting this weekend.

Seems like pretty good DL there with some quality players. We only play 2 DT at a time with 2 DE's. That is four really good ones you just named.

I don't see how Brocker is going to be moved to DT, dude is like 6'6, over 300lbs. That is starting to get ridiculous height wise. Hes going start getting leverage problems if he keeps growing, if he isn't already.

Don't say the NFL has a few 6'5, 6'6 dominate DTs either...they're extremely rare. We're not running a 3-4 scheme either, which it might be a little more acceptable in.

Davenport

Anyone think davenport might be a bust? he didn't even make the 2 deep last year and Josh Downs, who wasn't as highly ranked, made the 2 deep?

Downs was highly ranked after ESPN saw him in the UA game. He was destroying top competition, with constant penetration. Davenport was overweight and was coming off surgery too...they probably wanted him to sit out anyway.

Don't forget about our chances with Ferguson. We are hanging in there!

Anyone wanna guess a percentage on the odds of Ferguson going to LSU?

While we are trying to get Jones and Copeland as well as Ferguson, the fact that we are trying to scrape by on second tier guys outiside of Ferguson is a bit tough.

It wouldn't be as bad if we hadn't switched so many of our DTs to OL.

Those saying 4 is enough obviously ignored our DL the past few seasons. Just look at 2007, we used seven scholarship DTs that season I believe. Our haul last season was great if Hicks stayed, but kid is gone and was useless to LSU.

We got 2 DTs out of that class, and as of now have ONE extreme project for DT.

If we get an injury as of now, we are screwed.

LSU/Cal/FSU

We have just as good a shot as any of those...but I think Cal and FSU have the lead. To be honest though...I don't think anyone knows because just a few weeks ago it was Cal, now its FSU. The guy holds everything close to the vest...so I think we have as good a shot as anyone. He'd be a huge need in this class. Hes connected to Haley too.

I wouldnt be surprised at all to see some DE move inside. Pep Levingston will be one and Im sure we will see another.

We ran the "express" a couple of years back, I think we may just see more of that. I discussed this with a friend the other day. Our biggest problem last year wasnt stopping the run, it was getting pressure on the QB. We lacked the penetration and speed to get there. So adding some speed on the line could help matters, especially with more teams running some sort of spread assortment of formations in their offense.

Granted this may help, be leary the effects it will have on the running game inside when they start pounding away. However, with more speed on the field you may be able to get more hats to the ball and gang tackle easier.

Just a thought. But it does seem that Chavis/Miles are transitioning to a speedy defense. We have smaller DT, smaller DE, Safeties at LB. Just saying, Im noticing a trend.

I would be very happy with Copeland. He is for real. 6'1 275 with 4.7 speed, and will probably play close to 285 or higher next year. Jeez,I hope he pulls the trigger this weekend.

We have Nevis, Downs, Logan and Davenport at DT.

Someone is getting moved to the inside, we took 7 d-lineman last year if you include Mingo and Hicks. Obviously Hicks is gone, Mingo is growing into a DE as we thought. Logan already moved inside.

We have Blackmon coming plus we're recruiting Jones, Jackson, Ego and Copeland.

Beyond this coming up season...we already have Freak Johnson committed and he'll be a top 25 national prospect and hes a DT. We'll also be recruiting probably at least 2 more highly touted DTs from LA. I think we'll be OK for next season.

We'll move some guys to give the proper depth. I wouldn't Copeland is second tier either. Hes exactly the DT LSU needs right now...we have plenty of log jammers we need a pass rushing DT.

Copeland is a good prospect but at 6'2 240 lbs, won't be playing DT next year.

We are screwed depth-wise. That is our big issue. Quality depth.
