I know everyone is frustrated with how this team has looked so far, and rightfully so. I'm not sure the problems they have can be fixed this season. They are an absolutely dreadful rebounding team, don't communicate on defense or stop their man from dribble penetration, and have no flow or identity on offense. Johnny Jones looks like he has no clue how to fix these problems either. What does everyone think this team's ceiling is this year?

Looks like the UK fans were right about jones.

Recruits good, but can't coach for shite.

Musselman actually helped what little he was able to do last year because we look worse this year without him.

went tonight to watch the game

laughably bad on the ball defense

can not seem to stop dribble penetration in the middle of the court

no shot blocking and rim protection whatsoever

they have the #1 NBA draft pick and they dont consistently run the offense through him and they dont seem to try to run plays for him either

This is what happens when you don't do a proper coaching search.

i knew we were fricked when it was a one possession game and ben is standing in the corner while quarterman tries to take on 4 defenders.

you'd think it would be a point of emphasis for him to at least touch the ball, draw the defense's attention, and free guys up to move but that's another problem. everything is so stagnant

Robinson is painfully slow, Epps has a lot of potential but is very raw.

Hornsby is clutch and his shooting kept them in the game. Cant live and die by that though

I dont like Gray at all. I dont know what his plus skills are that get him so much playing time. He has never broken the awful habit of jumping in the air and trying to pass the ball.

Quaterman is a solid SEC player and the team got noticeably better when he played PG and keyed the offense.

Simmons needs to be out running and handling the ball in the open floor. Unfortunately LSU is not athletic enough to get out on the break when Simmons gets a rebound and takes off. he makes great decisions on the break but this team is not athletic enough to take advantage of it

Houston ran HS level inbounds plays and ate LSU alive. That is inexcusable. There is a complete lack of communication on the defensive end.

Perhaps Victor will solve a fair amount of these problems. by solidifying the front court. Not having a solid Juco PG to run the offense is downright criminal.

only thing gray really does well is break the press. he's got a different energy level too, but hasn't been able to score consistently at this level.

Other than when Elbert is on the floor this team is tremendously athletic. Quarterman, Grey, Blakeney, Hornsby, Epps and Sampson can all run and jump like deer.

They didn't run the break as well today but have excelled at it all year before.

Johnny Jones isn't that great of a recruiter. His best recruiting job of his career will have been getting David Patrick, which in turn got Simmons, which in turn got Blakeney. Look around the SEC though, other coaches are recruiting much better than Jones is right now

I LOVE Ben Simmons, but a glaring problem which affects us in our half court offense us that Simmons has no game outside 15 feet. He almost never shoots beyond 12-15 feet. He did once last night and it was almost an air ball. Hard to believe since his free throws look good and he has good form.

Other teams now understand this and will sag way off Simmons to prevent his drive and dish.

Simmons is not aggressive enough and doesn't take over against mid-level talent. Blakeney is too aggressive and can't make enough shots. Not a good combination for SEC play.

This team plays some of the worst defense I have ever seen. No fundamentals at all and no one has any clue where to go. If they arent guarding the ball, they are asleep. The same can be said for the way thisteam rebounds. They do block out sometimes, but everybody expects someone else to actually go get the ball. You hold your blockout until its time for you to agressively go get it. On the offensive side, against unf we saw what simmons could do when we get him the ball in the paint. He will get fouled or get a goodshot everytime. Yesterday, the couple times we got it to him he passed right away. Simmons has got to look to score and not simply pass to the guards everytime. Coaches have got to stress that ben has to get the ball inside every trip down court. The frustrating thing is that all these problems are all easily fixed, but they just aren't getting fixed.

I wish this whole "point" forward thing would die with Simmons. He's no threat outside so he shouldn't be getting the ball at the top of the key. Yes he can push the ball up the floor in transition but when he is outside the 3 pt line getting the ball the other coach is thinking to himself, "mission accomplished". Everyone is begging for him to get the ball there and our so called offense plays right into it. Keep him in the post and run P&R with him. Stop trying to run the offense through him outside the 3 pt line though because it's a waste of seconds on the shot clock.
