So can we all agree now that chief was way over rated?

From his soft arse passing coverage to his third down situation, his infamous mustang packages, lazy recruiting, bad talent recognition (DJ Welter), and consistently soft run defense.

Thankful for Dave Aranda. Only two games so far where opponents hit the 20's (One TD being end of half turnover, Two other coming from late game QB change when Tigers were sleep walking)

Hope he stays here for a long time.... although we probably get 3 seasons more tops.

Chief was and is a great DC. We are lucky to have Aranda.

I don't know if we all can but I'll agree with you.

We had some good defenses under Chief. The only thing that leaves a bad taste in my mouth is how he left. But I'll take Dave Aranda over him all day long. I'm very thankful we have him and I hope he sticks around for a long time.

Nope. He is FAR from overrated. He just isn't perfect, and games will slip away from him every so often. Find a DC who doesn't have that problem outside of Tuscaloosa. You can't.

watching this 2013 defense against Arkansas (Jim Chaney was the OC) and I fail to understand how they had so much success against LSU from play calling alone.

Chief benefitted from LSU's elite athletes.

Chief benefitted from having elite athletes (that he didn't recruit). His scheme is very specific to spread offenses typically but it is very one track minded.

He kept us competitive in a lot of games which masked Miles's incompetency for a long time.

He was/is a good but not great coordinator. And a terrible recruiter. And he's fat.

Clemson bowl game
Notre Dame bowl game
Bama 2012
Georgia 2013
Bama 2014

Just a short list of Chavis "greatness"...
No these losses are not all on him. But he had a large enough impact.

Feel free to add to the list, as there are many more.

I understand many people dislike him because of his "3rd and Chavis," but this thread is stupid.

You don't hold down a DC position in the SEC for decades by being overrated. A DC that has had many top defenses isn't overrated.

This thread just shows once again the stupidity that is on tRant. Idiot.

TAMU is 95th in total defense. They were pretty crappy last year too.

Chief was great. He was carrying Les miles and LSU.
