What did Skip see in Smoke to make him want to take over the reigns at LSU? Irrelevant question but i'm bored

I ask this because i say skip on ESPN during the florida series being interviewed and he is such a genius when it came to everything LSU baseball and i always wondered what he saw in Smoke.

The guy knows his baseball and you can't argue that. He got us to Omaha a few times. He was just really lazy and his awesome recruiter Turtle aimed a little too high and kids never made it here. His development of players showed how lazy he was. That and falling asleep in the dugout.

Honestly, it'd be tough for anyone to follow Skip. Expectations were too high and the SEC had just started seeing a boom in baseball program investments around the league. The schedule got harder but the methods remained the same. Recruiting got tougher and Smoke wasn't cut out for a high profile job.

He was an overthrown ball from beating LSU with NLU in a regional.

as evidenced by CPM's first few years, the wheels were were really falling off, from talent to overall player discipline. They got rid of him before things went to complete hell....and his big fatass torched the bridge on his way out.

He also had an amazing resentment towards the fans. I really wonder sometimes how he didn't realize what he was getting himself into.

He thought he was untouchable like Skip was. Thought all he had to do was show up and we would win. Not even close!

Did he end up coaching at any other place? Can't remember.

Smoke is actually doing a pretty damn good job building up North Florida. They might get an at large bid this year (Smoke's third season there)

Yep. Any success he did have while here should never garner him any kind feelings from the fans. He tried to take down the program after being fired for being awful at his job.

POS, IMO.

Totally agree with Clarks take.

Especially:

his awesome recruiter Turtle aimed a little too high and kids never made it here.

That was the major problem. Turtle went after guys that were 1st and 2nd rounders. They never came to campus. Then it was to late to get the guys from the 5-10 rounds like the rest of the SEC. So LSU was playing with late round or undrafted high school players. Talent was way off.
