why do we not see slant routes in this offense? we have only ran them a handful of times all season long, and saturday LaFell busted his for a td

just seems like the routes ran by receivers take too long to develop sometimes

because it would make too much sense to run a lot of slant routes.

Coaches view routes over the middle more dangerous. Inaccurate throws and tipped balls are more likely to be intercepted over the middle.

Seems like a trust issue.

Run it every play until they figure out how to stop it. Don't count on it again anytime soon because we did run it twice last week..

Slant routes can be a double edge sword. For one you need a qb thats pin point accurate and can lead the receiver properly........we dont have that yet.

because the slant route is not an option to the short side of the field...

JJ throws behind the receiver too often....they are forced to change direction and the play design is worthless at that point.

Inaccuracy is killing us.

But JJ is not reckless with the ball. He's only a soph and he WILL get better.

he will definitely keep improving, but let's hope that means more slant routes. they are money.

i mean really i think we are 4/4 on slant routes with 2 resulting in 1st downs and the other 2 resulting in TD's

This is a result of his release. You cant wind up and throw it like that on a slant pass. It has to be quick, sharp and on point.

I think JJ's wind up release in the beginning sort of took that idea of a slant out of the playbook. Like someone said he is getting better and better at and maybe we will see it.

Many of his successful throws are to stationary targets on hitches, curls, etc.

The comment about fear of a tip and pick are also valid.
