Were the reason they lost even though they played a better game, therefore downplaying the importance of having a good kicker and saying the other phases of the game matter more. Wouldn't that same logic hold up for Boise State last year against nevada when they missed those two chip shot field goals? If they were good enough in every aspect besides the kicker then shouldn't they have gotten a shot at the Rose Bowl according to ESPN's 'Bama-Riding Logic?

disclaimer: I know Boise shouldn't have gone to the Rose Bowl, just making a point about ESPN's f'ed up logic

If I may quote ESPN's esteemed Trev Alberts after LSU upset Georgia in 2003.

"This game was about Billy Bennett missing field goals."

Result: Georgia rematch beatdown. LSU National Title.

Who cares what Robert Smith thinks?

It's absolutely assinine, most of the missed field goals were 45yds plus....not typically a high percentage kick for college kickers. Maybe they should have gotten closer. Or if they were smart punted the ball and flipped field position. What a pile of nonsense.

Good point, but they still lost to TCU (i.e. Oklahoma State lost to ISU)

Someone on ESPN College Gameday just made a comment about Saban calling that trick play that Reed INT...
to my amazment they actually blamed Saban for it, said it was a "coaching error". I'VE NEVER HEARD ESPN ADMIT THAT BEFORE, or maybe i just have selective hearing

3 were from 49 yards are more, the other was a 44 yarder. Only 3 missed field goals, one was blocked which is always a risk on long field goal attempts.
Alabama gained -17 total yards in the redzone for the game.

They always say Bama missed 4 FGs. Rarely do they mention that one was blocked.

Did he also mention that outside of the 1st quarter (which a home team should dominate) the games yards were almost dead even in quarters 2,3, and 4?

No, he won't, because home field apparently doesn't mean much anymore, unless of course your playing LSU in the Superdome.
