Since 1912, LSU has had 17 seasons where they have won 82% of their games

82% equals a 9-2 record under the old 11 game schedule, which was consider to be a pretty damn good season back in the day. This is for the posters who are dismissing the 9 or 10 win seasons due to the increase in games.
So in order to equalize everything and put it in prespective, here are LSU's best seasons in the last 100 or so years based on winning percentage,
YEAR....RECORD....WIN %.......COACH
1933........7-0-3........85%......."Biff" Jones
1935........9-2-0........82%.......Bernie Moore
1937........9-2-0........82%.......Bernie Moore
1946........9-1-1........86%.......Bernie Moore

But, but, but we waste all this talent.

To be fair to Cholly Mac, Bernie Moore, Dietzel etc. those guys didn't have the luxury of scheduling FCS opponents or in-state schools nearly every year (other than Tulane). This applies to all major programs these days, I know.

Miles is just a fad...no way he will be successful here.

But he never let Russell Shepard throw a pass!

There also were not as many competitive teams. Break down the schedules and you will find similar numbers of games against winning programs.

WHAT!!!! "Saban-the-Gods" name is only on there once?

Except notre dame. No real cupcakes like Towson of western Carolina on their schedule. I don't like the domers but you have to respect the fact they play no cupcakes.

What? So we were only good in the past because we played a lot of inferior opponents? I don't buy that.

I'm not going to go year by year, but lets looks at the first few on that list and see who they played

Manhattan (NY)
UL-L
1937:
Loyola (LA)
Northwestern St. (LA)
1946:
Fordham (NY)

Give me a break. Most years the service academies are no better than LA in-state schools. Those are the cupcakes on ND's schedule every year.

Notre Dame always plays Navy, and often the other academies. No disrespect to the real student-athletes at the service academies, but they're not going to challenge for a BCS bid. Stanford is a regular, and before the last couple of years, the Cardinal hasn't usually been relevant. Washington State has made recent appearances, as has Wake Forest. Notre Dame may not play FCS opponents, but their schedule isn't a murderer's row every year.
The likes of Rice, U of the Pacific, and Utah (when they were terrible) were on LSU's schedule during the McClendon era, so the Tigers played a few breathers themselves.

Miles is obviously still winning with Saban's players.

1933-1937 = 5 years, #1 in '35 and '36 (Sagarin and Williamson ratings)
1958-1962 = 5 years, 1 MNC
2003-2007 = 5 years, 2 MNCs
2010-2014 = 5 years, 1 MNC (future?)
If the pattern holds, should have at least 3 more 82% seasons and possibly another MNC!

interesting that Arnsbarger didn't make the list and he is widely regarded as one of LSU's best coaches of all time.
