Exactly. LSU had 14 points taken off the score board, early, on BS penalties. That turns the game into a blow out early. Fla. scored a TD on a punt return in which a blatant block in the back was not called. etc etc

We beat the frick out of Florida bud. Go look at the stat line. Domination in every facet of that game from start to finish

I've just about had it with folks coming on here and saying how "lucky" we are that we didn't lose more games.

Complicated luck is why we're not 0-12 on the season.

Mathematical law is why we're not negative 3-15 on the season.

And Gerry Dinardo could likely been 8-3 instead of 3-8 and not lost his job if his luck was better.

Curley Hallman's first team at LSU was three missed tackles from being 8-3.

You don't understand. We just got lucky that lightning forced the cancellation of that McNeese game or that 40 point thrashing would have been the start of our 0-12 season.

Simple meteorology is why we're not 0-60 for the rest of the decade!

Good god that field goal was over 50 yards. That kicker had no shot at making that. And if we don't fake it we just kick a field goal and still win.

I actually agree with you on that. Every year, there are games that can go either way based on a play or two. It's that way for virtually every team.

Now, all that said, it's simply a fact that we were one long field goal away from losing to MSU. The Florida argument is a stretch - I believe we would've won that game with or w/o the fake FG.

We would have beaten Florida without the fake field goal.

LSU was obviously the best team for most of that game. LF could have gone for a lot more than 180 had it been needed.
MSU was LSU's first game and the Bulldog's second. Again, LSU appeared to be the more talented team other than at QB for most of that game. In a sense, the Bulldogs were lucky to have kept it that close due to Les and his conservative ways.
LSU was extremely unlucky to lose two critical offensive starters for most of the year, especially for the run game. The Tigers finished right about where injuries and a second-half drop-off in pass production said they would.

Back when I was a kid, we had 11 game seasons and no SEC championship game. And there were far fewer bowl games. So, at most, teams played 12 games, and to even make it to a bowl game was a pretty nice accomplishment. A 10 win season then was fantastic.

And back when you were a kid they played 6 sec games not 8. And yes, to win a title you have to play 9 sec games now. How does that make it easier? Sec set the standard with conference championship game. It makes your schedule tougher.

So the actual field goal would be worth zero points?

If the fake failed, wouldn't you say the field goal was worth zero?? All you people are worried about is being smartasses!

Assuming the scoring doesn't change if the fake had failed is illogical and idiotic, yes.
