He didn't have a great year last year. It looked like he was trying to avoid injury for a huge chunk of it.

That will make him that much more SAVAGE

As a freshman Adams had 66 total tackles, 5 TFL, 1 sack, and 5 PD.
As a sophomore he had 67 tackles, 5 TLF, 0 sacks, 4 INT, 10 PD, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 forced fumble.
To put things in perspective...LaRon Landry, in as many games as a sophomore, recorded 92 tackles, 5 TFL, 3 sacks, 4 INT, 10 PD, and one forced fumble.
I'm pretty sure there was no list heading into the 2005 season which had Landry ranked as one of the top-20 players in the country.
Yes, Adams' pass defense statistics improved, although you could argue more of that was due to Steele's scheme which seemed to utilize Adams less as a blitzer and more as a cover safety.
I'm not saying Adams was bad by any means last season, but people were praising this guy last off-season like he was the next coming of Mathieu. He was way too overhyped.
I don't think you guys realize how much of an achievement it is to be considered one of the 20 best players, regardless of class, in all of college football.
Does Adams have the potential to be the best safety in the country and achieve such accolades and acclaim? Definitely.
But if these rankings are merit-based and not potential-based, then I am not convinced that he is deserving of such a hypothetical lofty ranking.
