It's just bad luck to have an acquaintance, gf or whatever who became the victim of a murder.

Yes, it's unlucky to know someone who's murdered, but there is no luck in play when you're being publicly sandbagged in your profession by public figures who know that mentioning you name in relation to violence against a woman, even if you had nothing to do with it, would do tremendous undeniable harm to you. Imagine being in a job interview where someone peaked their head in the door and said to the hiring manager that you're wanted for questioning for a crime you had nothing to do with -there is no way to reasonably defend yourself and no way to minimize the negative impact of that unwarranted intrusion.

It's seriously fricked up.

Did their verbal confirmation do La'el irreparable harm resulting in the tangible loss of millions of dollars? Yes.

Were they compelled to do that harm without any alternative? No.
Do these 2 factors you apparently made up have anything to do with a defamation case? No.

Are your priorities in life disturbingly messed up? Yes.

Are you a moron? Yes.

Well, they sure did frick that one up didnt they? Timely would have been, what, two day max to actually question him? It certainly should have been done days before the draft.

This thread still alive

I was wondering the same thing. Basically, if La'el hadn't blown off the police when they first wanted to speak with him, none of this would've happened. However, DontCare apparently doesn't care.

For those that keep asking why this thread is stil alive, it is because people keep making completley stupid statements like this. The Police DID NOT SANDBAG ANYONE. They did not release his name for fun or to ruin his draft stock. To compare it to someone peaking in while you are on an interview and giving statement to the hiring manager is so silly it defies logic.

When the police are conducting an investigation into a murder, much of it will be a matter of public record for everyone not just football players, it is just that because of who Collins is it became national news. The Police can not hold up the investigation because it came right before the NFL draft. A woman was murdered, thhe police are notified and it just so happens that said murder victim had a past relationship with Collins. The police may not have said a damn thing when a report covering the murder found out it was Collins ex. He could have beeb told by a family memeber of the vic or a neighbor, or he might have already knew who she was for all any of you know. To just assume that the cops released the info to damage Collins is stupid and false. If dnm3305 was wanted for questioning by the police, it would be know, it just wouldn't be on ESPN.

And if you were on a interview and wanted for questioning by the police, your employer could find that out.

The murder was on Friday, the draft the following Thursday. Do you know when in the investigation they found out she had ties to collins? Was it at the sceene, the next day, Monday, when did the know? Also do you know when the contacted Collins? Sorry, the BRPD can not speed up and investigation just because the person murdered was connected to a football player and the murder was before the football player was drafted. This ain't Law and Order.

Good points. Let me pile on.

If you are a soon-to-be first round draft pick whose not-so-secret very pregnant ex-girlfriend is murdered days before the draft, SOMEBODY who knows this situation (Collins ex was murdered) will almost certainly leak that information public and someone in the sports press is going to run with it.

Not implying Collins' guilt or innocence in any way, but after a few days without an arrest, logic PRESUMES that the police will talk with Collins before or after the draft. So, even if he wasn't questioned before the draft, his stock was probably shot anyway, right?

So, was it the fact that he was questioned by the cops kill his draft stock? Or the fact that his pregnant ex was murdered days before the draft without an arrest ruin his draft stock?

BRPD did nothing wrong whatsoever.
