Sure, I agree that there are better options out there. What I don't understand is paying more for somewhat better results, instead of waiting until LSU is in a position to be elite. I think a new facility could attract an elite coach or at least an elite assistant.
I don't care if LSU finishes 15th. I care if they finish top 5, and they'll never be able to hire a great coach without a respectable facility

Never is a strong word. There are so many great young coaches out there that are coaching teams that bring dozens of kids to Juniors every year. For comparison, Louisiana brings like 3 or 4 to Juniors. I could be wrong, but that is pretty close. And yes, these out of state schools are swimming at 20 million dollar high school facilities, but any one of those coaches would jump at an opportunity to be a Div I SEC coach, new facility or not. I repeat, new facility or not. And they could easily bring the fire and leadership LSU swimming has been lacking.
LSU's problem is they don't have personnel in the Administration that really knows swimming, outside of our small town thinking, they really don't give a shyte, and thats a quote. Swimming doesn't sell tickets.
In other words, what is the best coaching job at LSU?
Swim coach. No accountability.
