Scott's Lack of Production is not his fault

Guys,
He's a power runner whose best success is running out of the I formation. This year he has inconsistent inside blocking, an inexperienced fullback, and he's getting the ball with no headstart.
Therefore, Miles is doing the right thing by going more to KW this year - it will require more outside speed and cutting ability. But, do not bash Charles - he sacrificed a lot to come back this year to help lead this team. If our O line ever starts really meshing, we will see Scott again at his best, especially if we get the chance to go back to the power game. Otherwise, it will be limited to the option and these ball-control short passing plays, which won't keep the great defenses "honest".
Good luck, Chuck. And, congrats to KW for showing his great abilities, too. Both deserve much credit.

whatever the reason he is not getting it done. Im sitting here in my new 32 home jersey telling you KW is the better back thus far.

why was KW a ghost inthe 2nd half until late?

No question. In the first two games, KW has performed. I think it has something to do with formations and our overall scheme this year. But whatever the reason, KW is performing. And that is a good thing.

if this were actually true, i would be perfectly happy. but its completely false

I think teams are also keying on him more this year too. Last year at the beginning of the season I don't he was expected to be a top rusher in the SEC, then as the season went on teams started shutting him down.
I don't mind the two back system.

You are absolutely correct. The inexperience at Center and FB are really holding Scott back. KW had two great runs tonight that Scott would have been stuffed on. One was his second TD, where he found gaps in the middle and used his ability to cut. The other was on the last drive, where he started up the middle, and then cut outside for a gain of 4 or 5. Scott probably would have been stuffed for no more than 1-2 yards on both of those plays.
Another issue is the playcalling. Until they let JJ go down the field a little, defenses have no reason to go away from having 7 or 8 in the box. If we can open up the middle of the field in the passing game and force the LBs and Safties to back off, then all of our backs will be more effective.

I don't think KW was a ghost - if my memory serves me right, there was a point where LSU's OLine was blocking somewhat better and Scott was ripping off 8-10 yds. only to get shut down on 2nd and 3rd and short......mainly, poor blocking up front and motion penalties, not Charles' fault.
I also recall a classic Scott run thru the entire Vandy team that got called back for holding.
You can argue all you want, but from the looks of it on TV, it appeared to be a sheer "mudbowl" during the entire 3rd Quarter and much of the 4th....which might explain the "close to vest play-calling" during that period of time. Once the rain slowed down, we opened it up again with KW outside. The play I got tired of seeing wasn't the short yardage plays for Scott, but the sideline passes to Lafell and Tolliver for -2 yds....no vertical passing whatsoever....but, then again, SFP, I'm thinking it was because of the rain, ya think??

we need to celebrate his great game
did you prefer scott up the middle for nothing over KW owning and zoning?

I just see that Scott runs up to the line this year and just stops. No cut, no hit the hole hard.

Apparently, KW is just not one of Miles' favorites. ONly reason I can see for his lack of opportunities.

it was POURING in the first half also

That's because there IS NO HOLE. He is used to having the O-line and FB take care of the line, and then taking on LBs and Safties in the second level. There is a big difference there.

This year Keiland should be the work horse. I've been a Scott guy for the last two years, but with the way the blocking is for them this year its Keiland.

KW is getting plenty of opportunities this year. He is not a good between the tackles. We're a different offense this year with JJ. KW will play a lot more because we can get him to the corner on option plays. This theory that Miles hates him is stupid. We always run by committee, and we generally play the best back for the play.

you have to understand what the adjustment was that the defense was enjoying there in the second half. It was a want of the coaching staff to have KW in the game, but Scott was the right call for us if we wanted to meet air in the running game.

Agreed....that o-line needs work and it's easier for a speed back to make it outside that mess up the middle. that being said, i like both backs and hope they can find a way to keep them both in the mix at all times.

We need to use both to succeed. Trindon needs to be officially retired as an RB. Used Shep instead. As much as the staff says otherwise, he is just a fast track guy. He is NOT a football player. He has no vision or moves. He has to have a wide open lane to do anything.
BTW, how is Richard Murphy? TV never reported on his injury.
