Schlabach (ESPN) makes bold statement on Adams.

*key word: "maybe"*

In the article he has both Fournette and Adams making his All-American team. Re-watching some games from last year pre-snap Adams is the closest thing we've had since Mathieu. Constantly see him diagnosing plays. (Auburn Game)
We all know what Mathieu brought to special teams, but comparing just on the defensive side, does he finish with a better year than Mathieu's last? In my opinion he can.

There will never be another Mathieu.

Not a once in a generation talent, dude was a once in a life time talent.

Mathieu might be the most talented player to ever put on the purple and gold.

I like Adams, but Mathieu is the single greatest defender in LSU history, and Adams hasn't even remotely approximated his production. There is absolutely no shame in not being as good as the best defender in LSU history.

Also, if anyone in here picks up that Bama narrative that he was a "playmaker" and he couldn't cover, I am preemptively calling you an idiot.

Jamal is a great player but he is not The Honeybadger. There isnt a single defensive player I can ever remember who could literally change a game like he could form the defensive side of the ball.

Adams is not the game changer that Mathieu was while he was here.

Donte Jackson is more Badger-like if we let him freelance like Mathieu.

Yeah, no disrespect to Adams, but not a chance

Mathieu was a football player. He could run, cover, tackle, hit, catch, run and be elusive with the ball in his hands, and was and still is the most instinctive and smartest player on the field. Adams might be a better Safety in the mold of a safety.

With Honey Badger in 2012 we go undefeated and win the NC. There's no doubting it. The kid was worth 10pts every game.

I've been saying this. But "the closest thing" is all he'll ever be. Adams is my favorite defensive player since Mathieu.. But the honey badger had too much upside that you can't even coach. He was born to be a fricking badass and literally take what he wanted. That's not coachable. Absolutely nothing against Adams. Mathieu is a once in a generation type player. No competing with that.

But once it's all said and done.. Don't be surprised if Adams is hailed as one of the DBU greats.

Mathieu was better in the one game he played safety for LSU than Adams was in any game (you could argue Adams' game against WKU was close, but Mathieu against Arkansas was still better for my money).

Mathieu had 8 solo tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery in his only game as a safety. Also, he had that little deal where he returned a punt for a touchdown.

This and this isn't a knock on Adams. TM7 was a once in a generation guy IMO.

It is akin to saying that Godchaux is maybe better than Dorsey. Godchaux is a fine player, but Dorsey is the standardbearer.

They are completely different types of players and play different positions (in college).

That said, TM is one of the best pure football players I've ever seen. He had the instinctual ability to always be in the right place at the right time and it went beyond just being well coached.

A great player, yes. But we will probably never see another Mathieu.

I don't even think he is close at all. Adams is good, but as many great plays as he has made, he has missed almost the same amount. Inconsistent.

The motto for the TM was "he does what he wants" was not really a motto at all. It was 100% true.

I think Adams is a great player, but he hasn't really come close to the impact Mathieu had in either of his two years here. Not saying he can't, but I'd say he's more Reid than Mathieu.

Tyrann is on a different level than Jamal. It's not even close.
