Scenario: 10-1 LSU & 12-1 Alabama
Posted on 11/3/15 at 7:08 pm
Posted on 11/3/15 at 7:08 pm
End of the year:
#1 Alabama (SEC champs, only loss to Top 20 Ole Miss at home. Very strong SOS)
#2 Clemson (undefeated ACC champion. Strong SOS)
#3 Ohio State (undefeated Big 10 champion. Strong SOS)
#4 _____________
Contenders:
10-1 LSU. Only loss to #1 Alabama away by 3 points. Beat Ole Miss in an away game, the only team to knock off #1. Also beat the SEC east champions Florida. Florida's only two losses come to Alabama & LSU, both by 7 points. Lacking 1 win due to cancelled game at the start of the year due to weather. Very strong SOS
11-1 Oklahoma State. Big 12 champions. Only loss to Oklahoma in a home game, who finishes with 2 losses (TCU and Baylor also finish with 2 losses). Strong SOS.
In 2011, the media picked Alabama over Oklahoma State. In 2015, who do they pick, LSU or Oklahoma State?

TCU won't finish with two loses.

What about a one-loss Stanford?

If LSU loses to Bama, we are probably out. If we lose to another team, probably not.

Scenario: LSU is undefeated.

1 Loss stanford has too weak a SOS. Only a 1 loss big 12 champ can go against LSU in this scenario realistically, with notre dame the closest #2.

In this scenario OSU. LSU needs a 2 loss champion from 2 of the 5 conferences. So Clemson winning out would not be good for LSU.

What the frick is this stupid shite?

Under the current format, November losses kill you if you don't win the conference. Bottom line.

I dont agree with this. LSU loses close away to #1 and has a stronger SOS than the 1 loss Big 12 champ.

That's where you are wrong, being a conference champ will trump the sos if records are equal.
LSUs best bet is Stanford losing to ND, but winning the PAC 12. FSU losing to UF, but winning the acc. Then it would come down to the best 1 loss team. LSU, or ND. Even better would be Michigan winning the big 10 with 2 losses as well.

You didnt mention what happens to the big 12. Theres no way every team comes out of that conference with 2 losses.
Edit: NVM you have the ACC out

I have a better scenario Kyle. Beat Bama!
Posted on 11/3/15 at 7:34 pm to SuperKyle
It depends on how we lose to Bama.
Clemson #1 overall in this scenario.
Does an undefeated team from the American conference make it in?
What about Utah?
Personally I don't like our chances if it's between us and a 1 loss pac 12/big 12 champ.
note Ohio State has played no-one and they don't look impressive. It's possible the big 10 champ is a 1 loss team.
edit: there is SOO much left to go it's almost impossible to determine what will happen.
4 teams in the Big 12 have a chance to win it, and they all play each other. Big 10 is wide open, Iowa Ohio State Michigan State all good chances to win it. Pac 12 is pretty open, 3 teams from the SEC have a chance to be in the playoff.
A Monkey picking 4 teams out of a hat has a better chance of predicting the playoff teams than any experts. So much left to determine.

Yeah the 1 loss or undefeated big 12 champ would be in. I think OU has a real shot at winning that conference.
But in the op scenario OSU wouldn't be left off. They have some big games left and would be conference champs.

Neither. They pick TCU, who I think will skate through the regular season unbeaten with wins over Okie State and Baylor

It looks bad, but the voters have to consider that the 11th win was against McNeese. They have to view LSU as 11-1 realistically.

You couldn't wait until Sunday to see if this thread is even necessary?

That is the scenario I think LSU will get in with one loss.
