Did many people say he wouldn't be missed? He's one of our greatest players ever.

He is but not as much as Faulk. He has the ability to provide a spark that we never got last night, but we hung on without that spark

But I do agree defense is fine...he just helped in so many other areas of the game.

Turnovers, short fields, and punt returns.

Yup, he is missed. This defense is stingy, but it isn't creating the short fields that last year's D did. I think Mathieu's departure has had a huge impact in that way.

He, and his on-field production may not be around, but his 2011 "soft as cotton" Twitter diatribes with Trey Burton will be on the Gators locker-room walls, in two weeks..that and pictures of Wing's wave..

Get ready!

^This

Who ever said he wouldn't be/isn't missed. The guy was a freekin Heisman finalist, all-American and the most explosive, game changing, turnover machine defensive player that LSU has ever had.
To the OP...... GTFO with this bs thread

Yes he is. He's a playmaker who can change a game around with a big play (or more). That said we still have a damn good defense.

Not really. D'backs aren't that good. Defensive line covers for the secondary. Both Claiborne and TM being gone from this team hurts.

I ain't gonna argue against that.

Definitely without a doubt, I think we all knew that he would be missed. Defense is fine as someone said but its his aggressiveness and as someone else said the intangibles that he brought that are missed. All I can say that if the young man does what he is supposed to do then he needs to be back on this team when spring practice rolls around. I dont care what Alleva says, just like his screw up with the Duke Lacrosse team withe the new guilty until proven innocent attitude. If he hangs with this against TM7 then he needs to be on the fast train out of Baton Rouge, especially if TM7 goes to a competitor of ours to finish his football career.

I agree. Both are big hits (Matthieu and Faulk), but if I could only have 1 back right now, I would want Faulk.

i think the other guy ppl forget about is brandon taylor. when auburn gashed us a few times last night and some guys were taking bad angles, i couldn't help but remember that guy seemed to ALWAYS be in the right place at the right time. i think the amount of field he and TM covered may have made our secondary and linebackers look better in run coverage than we actually were

ETA: i think they also made reid and loston look better than they actually were. they've looked surprisingly slow at times and have taken more than a few bad angles.
