Remember what Saban said about our QB in 2003, "We don't need him to win the game, we just need him to NOT lose the game." I understand the QB position can be the most important position on the field (if the coaches want it that way), but I think we sometimes make too much of the QB position. Yes, it would be great to have an amazing NFL caliber athlete at every position, but that is probably not realistic.

In the meantime we will just lose games to teams that have QBs that can win games. Oh and also lose the games that our QB helps us lose with his mistakes.

This was not meant as support for our current situation, but rather a realistic look at our QB/team future. No question that our QB play has been poor, but so has other aspects of our offense.

Do you really think nick Saban is the only coach to say that?

Alabama has won two close games this year bc of a play or two Simms made.
You need a qb that will win the game for you to be better than a decent team.

LSU doesn't have that.

In 2003, Matt Mauck led the SEC in passing efficiency. He passed for 2,825 yards, 28 TD passes, with 14 interceptions. He had two 300 yard passing games.

With one regular season game left, Anhony Jennings has passed for 1,353 yds and 9 TD'S with 6 interceptions.

Nick Saban would not approve.

If your QB does not have the ability to progress thru his reads, and if the coaches don't trust him to throw on 1st or 2nd down, then he IS LOSING the game for you.

Idk, with this attitude I feel like our ceiling is effectively what we did in 2011. We had an incredible defense and playmakers everywhere except QB. So Im not too optimistic about it cuz Saban

It is narrow minded to credit a close win (or loss) to one player. Those games are full of "what ifs." A team/company/etc. is not ready to be a "championship" team until every aspect/part of that team is of "championship" caliber.

In 2003, we threw it for 3,200+ yards and ran it for 2,600 even (2,998 not including losses).

Even if he's busy "not losing" the game, he still has to make plays within the course of the game. Based on the productivity of that offense in the year he made that statement, it was expected that the LSU QB make more non-losing plays in the passing game than the LSU running game did since we threw it for more than we ran it.

Great analysis Bro.

I agree…..AJ has not performed as a "championship" caliber athlete. There are many possible reasons for this (AJ's lack of ability, poor play by other positions i.e. OL, poor play calling resulting in AJ being asked to do things he cannot do, poor overall game scheme, etc.).

Pretty funny, b/c Mauck was not a game manager at all. He turned the ball over a ton and shite the bed against the top 25, especially Ole Miss and OU. He was far closer to the side of gun slinger than what Saban described.

He was clutch though

Everything starts and ends with the QB position. No QB, no chance.

"Making plays" can be defines as:
1. completing 100% of passes for 400 yards/5 TD's = win
2. completing 60% of passes for 175 yards/1 TD combined with a running game that results in 300 yards rushing/4 rushing TD's = win
3. etc.
A win is a win is a win is a win………..

I'm a supporter of Les generally, but our QB position is a disaster. I don' think anyone here expects an NFL caliber QB every year, but we need to field a QB worthy of getting first downs when the running game is not working. We have a QB development problem. Cam is not earning his money and Miles needs to hold him accountable.

Sweet, are you the football admin poster for this morning?

Hi, I'm Cpt. It's nice to see you getting started trying to deflect from the abortion that Miles will put on the field tomorrow with AJ at the Helm.

Sadly, while Miles flounders against aTm for last in the West, Saban will be readying another trip to Atlanta.

FAIL.

I think our QB position looks like a disaster as well and AJ must accept some responsibility. But it may be a little unfair to lay all of the blame on one athlete/position.

I'm certainly not a supporter of the football administration. However, I am a fan who tries to look at the whole program when searching for answers to our issues. BTW….I think the "buck stops" with the head coach. The coaching staff has performed poorly with the recruitment/retention/development of the QB position (I think they would agree with that assessment).
