This is not just a CPM practice. It's universally done this way through out baseball. As one noted, it all comes down to numbers/percentages, and CPM does use the percentages in every decision he makes. Too, he also knows his runners better than anyone. As Kyle Peterson has said every game he's broadcast lately, when it comes to running the bases, LSU is all about continually applying pressure on the other team to make a play.

IIRC, this weekend Kade stayed put on a really scorable grounder to second.
that was completely Kades fault. I mean that ball was practically in the damn hole between 2nd and 1st. He could have walked home whether he was going on contact or not.
PM was pissed.

Are you saying it's universal that runners are sent home on contact (ground ball) with 1 out?

Make the other team make a play which can sometimes be a difficult play

not that you are asking me but down contact is universally in every teams "arsenal" and used from time to time. whether PM uses it more than others beats me.

moneyg, obviously who the runner is comes into play, but as a general practice, yes. Skip did it every year that he was HC, he was questioned about it in his early years, and he always gave the same answer: "the percentages favor sending the runner". Question CPM if you will, but questioning Skip's baseball IQ is ridiculous.
