He says that Dural should have "gone up" and "attacked" the football, but the pass was on a rope, not the type of throw that lends itself to a jump ball.

EVERY ball is a jump ball... you get it at it's highest point when you got blanket coverage, mayne...

That ball is a pick in the end zone against better db's the way Dural handled it.

so just because a guy plays for LSU, that makes him immune to legitimate criticism about his performance???

You do realize that our players voluntarily chose to play for LSU, at the highest level of college football. They chose to do so knowing the pressure and expectations. They should expect legitimate criticism when appropriate.

If they don't want to live in such a situation, there are plenty of D-IAA, D-II, and D-III colleges that have football teams.

Solid thread. I thought the "should be back shoulder fade" was a good throw. Dural had a step on the CB and pulled back. If he would have continued his route they had a shot.

Rewatch that play again. Watch LF sneak out the backfield when EM blitzes and see just how wide open he was. Nobody within 10 yds of him over the middle.

Nobody can say that Harris didn't completely miss that.

Example of how Harris locks in pre-snap.

IF the QB sees what he's looking for with the primary receiver, that's where he's going. He's not checking every possible receiver to determine who is the most open.

One thing I think this game showed is how big of a difference there is between a FG and a TD for this LSU team.

Being up 28-14 instead of 20-14 at halftime means EMU is basically out of it. If LSU would've been up 42-14 with 2 minutes left in the third, 49-22 near the start of the 4th, and 56-22 with 10 minutes left, then the complaints about this game would've been much quieter.

Redzone offense has been good this year, particularly relative to how abysmal it was last year, but in order for this team to dominate we're going to need a very high TD to FG ratio (fortunately we happen to have a LF sitting around that will be very helpful there).

and LSU worked on the passing game a ton

We attempted a pass less than 20 times in the whole game against EMU. 15 passing attempts is considered working on the passing game a lot? Only at LSU

Actually I liked the announcer. He's right. LSU is one dimensional and is in for some tough sledding in the rest of the schedule if it can't develop an effective passing attack.

People need to leave Dural alone. He is one of the classiest players on the team and good kid.

This. That was a TD all day long if he continues the route into the endzone.

Tried to post but screwed that up with my clumsy hands. Oh well, I am still concerned with the passing game. We judge by results, not effort, and the results haven't been very good. Although we tried to throw early with some success when they closed the gap Les went back to LF and the run which I can't blame him for. Not a good game for the receivers for sure. I think the talent is there both at QB and the receivers but dang they need to turn the switch on soon. Practice games are over!!
In any case we need to be 75-25 run to pass and feed the beast.

I wish they would give Quinn a "get out of jail free" card. He deserves a shot.

I'd been thinking of the John McClane comparison for a while, but didn't quite see how funny it was till you and a couple others commented... now I've got the image of Coach Miles dropping a "yippee ki yay" during a post-game interview stuck in my head.

That would be gold.

I don't know if you could see it on TV, but on this play:
quote:

Harris lobs one incomplete to Dupre in the corner of the end zone
Fournette is WIDE open in the middle of the field. He went to block and then slipped through line and there was no one within 10 yards. I know the pass was designed to go to Dupre, but if Harris would have seen Fournette he could have just lobbed it over the line for an easy TD.

TL:DR we were in a close game to the 4th quarter with Eastern Michigan. The week after doing the same thing against Syracuse. This despite having a 200 yard rusher in both games.
That's all fine and dandy if you just want to watch some football and have a good team to root for. It's not good if you want to win a championship, because if we had a championship defense, those games would not have been as close as they were.
I'm not trying to be a negatiger. I appreciate looking for the positives. I just think you did a lot of rationalizing and missed the big picture.

Before the season I rewatched the A&M and Arkansas games from last year. One thing made both of those games more difficult than they needed to be: drops. they unfairly made Jennings look worse than he should have and are affecting our perception of our team this year. I'd say it's one of the bigger issues going forward
