Remember the QB "problem" we had in 2006?
Posted by geauxnavybeatbama on 7/29/17 at 12:57 pm4628
Russell
Flynn
Perrilloux
First round draft pick, national champion, and number one QB recruit. Who would have ever thought that LSU would have gone from that to pretty much asking fans to play QB two years later and moving forward til now.
Cue the member berries

We literally just signed 2- 4* All American QB's. Les is gone. There's actual hope for a passing attack.

No I know. It seems to finally be back on track. I'm just saying the past ten years is such a head scratcher since the beginning of miles tenure was stellar.
Can't wait to not cringe every time the ball is in the air

The horrible QB play the past decade is really mind boggling.

Yes indeed. Watching not just 1 but 2 receivers go over 1,000 yards was a real sleeper all righty.

We couldn't find one serviceable guy out of HS?
re: Remember the QB "problem" we had in 2006?Posted by geauxnavybeatbama on 7/29/17 at 1:23 pm to Elleshoe
Louisiana offense really screws over lsu. They put the best athlete at QB rather than having a true QB. Most of lsu wide receivers and running backs the past ten years played QB in high school for at least a year.

ok 8 out the past 9 seasons. You win the internet.

Serviceable at a college elite level still needs to be pretty damn good. So no, we clearly couldn't.

These guys actually committed to miles. They both decomitted from O, then came back. One had been injured most of high school. The other was a three star until the end of his sr. Summer. Pump the breaks. Be cautiously optimistic. Rite now you dont know whats going to happens.
PS, book mark this post.

Dak prescott says hi. Keayton Thompson says hi. Desean Watson (clemson) says hello. Its about how you develop the guys you recruit. Harris at miss St. Would have been interesting.

Bama has moved on. Take a reaaally good athlete. Mold your system around him. Viola!!!!! National championships and heisman trophies are being won by which type of quarterback??
#Clemson #BAMA #OhioState #LSU who doesnt belong on this list?

one year, Gray. You picked the outlier. The exception that proves the rule.

Miles sure had some bad luck it's not like he didn't recruit top QBs. They just didn't pan out, then again it's kinda hard to get any QB to fit that darn system of his.
He would still be here had he hired a decent OC and changed his system up a good bit. Hell if he would have just taken advice from our TEs coach he would likely still be here. Like I've always said it wasn't the record, it's was more of the moral of the team, fans, and coaching staff that did him in.
The wins weren't even fun anymore. It just got stale which is why I think O will bring the fun back, change when ever he sees it needs it and keep recruiting at a high level. You really don't need a freakn genius coach. You need someone that will steer the ship in the right direction and change course when you see it going off track. Be decisive with any move you make.

This is the hardest thing to understand. Miles clearly wanted to keep coaching, and it was known that the offense must change. And he simply refused to change it, even though his best years were when he did open it up some.
I guess he assumed that the running game in 2016 would be so powerful it'd steamroll every team and keep the Bama game close. I dunno.

yep. Ohio State won it all with a 3rd string QB. Bama made the playoffs with Blake Sims (!) and Jalen Hurts, and won it all with Jake Coker. Auburn made the NC game with Nick Marshall at QB.
Good coaches adapt their offense based on the skill set of their QB, not trying to cram a round peg into a square hole.
