REDSHIRT RULES - PLEASE EXPLAIN
Posted by lsusiegel on 9/21/08 at 8:11 pm00
I thought a player could redshirt as long as they didn't play after a certain point in the season. Isn't there a 20% rule? If so, JJ is still technically a redshirt.

You should know that NCAA rules indicate that any competition, regardless of time, during a season counts as one of your seasons of competition in that sport. It does not matter how long you were involved in a particular competition (for example, one play in a football game, one point in a volleyball match); you will be charged with one season of competition. NCAA
If you were not such a smart arse and used Google yourself you would know you were wrong - there are many, many, many rules that can be applied and the 20% is only one. I read the rules and most of you are wrong. Don't be such a dumb prick.

No, he can't get a regular redshirt.
The number of snaps/games rule applies to medical redshirts. Is it possible JJ will get a medical redshirt? Yes. Highly unlikely, baring a freak practice injury though.

Oh really? Show me any recent NCAA rulebook showing that a player can play up to 20% of the season before they can no longer be redshirted please.

The medical redshirt rule, which is the only one that matters since the are rarely denied, is a player can play in no more than 3 games and can't playafter the fifth game of the season. And, of couse, you have to fake an injury.

He'll probably tear a labrum picking up his backpack.

Thanks Tigercat.
What he said and what you said are not the same. JJ is NOT still a redshirt. An injury must occur and an appeal must be made to the NCAA. That is no longer the internal affiar the 5 years to complete 4 years of elgibility that goes with a redshirt.
What you are pointing to confirms what has been said already in either this thread or the other.
He CANNOT redshirt because he took a snap. (14.2.3.4)
LSU would have to fabricate an illness to get a hardship waver from the NCAA. This is not a redshirt per say.
Seriously, did you not read what you are citing?
