Recruit better players....

Formula for success in baseball, too. Pitching staff is "underwhelming" in talent.
Next years staff? All on the head coach who just got a raise and an extension.
Too few "plus"'arms.

How do you recruit better players when the better players are chosing to get paid in pro ball?

I'm going to make an extremely safe assumption that you do not pay attention to LSU baseball recruiting other than bitching about it occasionally during the season.

Yeah, I think that has to make baseball recruiting so tough. You have to almost automatically limit yourself to recruiting the 2nd tier guys. A coach is basically left with trying to get the best of the B team.

Just because a guy doesnt get drafted in the first two rounds doesn't make him second tier.

Agree, but does the coach know in which round the player will be drafted at the time he is being recruited (which is during his sophomore or junior year in high school, 2 or more years before he is up for the draft)?

Can I just jump in to say WHAT
The pitching staff has had it's plague of injuries thus far, lets not act like this was to be seen last summer during late signing period.

I'd be happy if we focused on getting some bigger players. We have no threats in the lineup outside of Diechman.
Our 5'3 coach tends to like small scrappy guys.

Has anyone spotted Rankin Woley lately? At least as a pinch hitter in a late game situation? Guess he's in the doghouse too

Recruit more players bigger than PM

How do other schools always have an Ace out there that can give LSU fits? All LSU has to do is recruit a few more of them instead of the ones who are at LSU right now and can't play. It is called better evaluation.
There are obviously better arms out there than LSU is signing because there are pitchers on damn near every team which has an ACE.
If you defend CPM's recruiting then there is obviously a problem with his development. Either way, something is wrong.

Well, they're the Ace because they give every team fits, not just LSU. Hence the Ace.

Seems like manieri goes after too many guys that are going to go pro out of high school. I understand offering some kids because you never know but damn.

Big players don't help you win in Omaha. If you make it there, you have to be able to play small ball and not depend on the HR because TD Ameritrade is a monster.
Now we definitely need to be able to hit a lot better than we have the last few games, but gorilla ball doesn't work in the CWS anymore

Where is Mason Templet? Big, strong LHH, only 5 AB's this season??

Don't all other teams have the same issue?

The last few seasons we've lost very few of our signees who went pro.
Project#'s can fill in the numbers from his spreadsheet.
In any case, would you prefer that our coaches only recruit players who aren't good enough to be considered by the pros?
