but I did keep up with the LSU scoop by following the tweets of several media members including RossDellenger of the Advocate, James Moran of Tiger Rag, and Jacque Doucet of WAFB. Below is a summary of the key takeaways.

• The good news: Left tackle KJ Malone returned to practice. Other projected starting O-linemen, Toby Weathersby (LT) and Will Clapp (C) are still recovering from minor injuries and did not practice, although Coach O did say the two are expected back very soon.

• Unfortunately, another offensive lineman, sophomore Donavaughn Campbell, who we have at No. 3 at right tackle on our unofficial depth chart, had a minor setback. Coach O said he should be back in the next couple of days.

• Freshman running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who’s been drawing lots of praise this summer, also sustained a minor injury when he took a big hit and has missed the last few days of practice.

• Freshmen linebackers Jacob Phillips and Tyler Taylor “have risen to the occasion.” When speaking of the young inside linebackers, Coach O said they’re picking up things and suggested they will contribute this year.

• Freshman Aaron Moffitt, the son of strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt, has been moved from defensive end to tight end.

• As for special teams, Orgeron said the kicker battle is still “neck and neck“ between Jack Gonsoulin and Conner Culp. Also, it sounds like Drake Davis, Derrick Dillon, and Donté Jackson are working on kick returns and Edwards-Helaire will work there too when he returns to action.

• In the defensive backfield, Donté Jackson and Kevin Toliver would be the starting cornerbacks today, while Kary Vincent and Xavier Lewis are working at the nickel position. Orgeron said the defense plays out of the nickel formation 85% of the time.

• At quarterback, right now Danny Etling is clearly No. 1, but the competition is still open with Myles Brennan, Lowell Narcisse, Justin McMillan and Lindsey Scott all in the mix. Orgeron suggested that those four are all tied for the No. 2 role, but did say Brennan’s release and ability to throw the ball is very special.

While I have tried to downplay the Chickenlittleism on this issue over the past couple of weeks, I understand this concern. We have zero room for error. At this point, we are a single injury (or maybe 2) to key OL players from seeing either walk ons or emergency situations with Dlinemen, TEs or some combination on the 2-deep chart - and this is with completely untested players on the field.

SO - take your blood pressure meds, baws. I know I am.

It further blows my mind that we had transfers out of the 2 deep from guys with more than 1 year left.

They would most likely all be seeing significant PT this year.

Makes me think the change in offensive philosophy didn't appeal to those individuals.

It makes me wonder if there is more to the story with these o linemen who left. We are having to use walk ons in the 2 deep, while highly rated kids would rather transfer and sit out a year than possibly start in the SEC? What up wit dat?

Probably so, our offensive lineman have to have their arse in shape and can't rely on just brute strength . Hell we may even see tackles pulling around this year

So 85% of the time, the F-Linebacker (Thompson/Divinty) won't be on the field. Interesting.

Not uncommon to see players transfer out with a coaching change for a variety of reasons. Butthurt over the coaching change, don't like the new offensive philosophy, etc. A pretty drastic change for an Olineman recruited here under Miles' ground and pound game.

Who knows, but it has LSU in a bind this season.

Really puts MT's (yes I used the acronym because I wasn't 100% sure how to spell it correctly, shoot me) release under the microscope. Coach O might be running a tight ship.. not sure how many other programs would boot a starter at a position that lacks depth like he just did

Yes it sucks. But my take is OL (as well as QB) is one of the toughest positions to project incoming talent. Also, Chidi-Valentine and Stewart were likely projects. Allen's high rating started losing its appeal at the end of the cycle. Teuhema is a def loss and George Brown seems he may be a loss, but what other highly rated guys did we miss?

This is a fricking filthy list of returners... just obnoxious.

Really, which ones that left cited that as the reason for leaving? Oh none of them. Okay, that's what I thought.

Hmm...he booted him? Wow...when did Coach O say that? I thought what I heard Coach O say Saturday loud and clear is that he did and tried everything he possibly could to make him stay. It's not Coach O's fault the moron is a loon. I mean that dude is retarded, all he had to do is go through the season and then enter the draft. He was a five star so he would have been drafted. But instead, he quit over a minor academic issue because Coach O did his job and temporarily suspended him until he took care of his minor academic issue and the moron gets all pissed off and decides to transfer over that minor issue.

Man...if he is that sensitive and that incredibly stupid, then good riddance. He's only hurting himself because any potential NFL team he may sign with in the future will probably take a few hundred thousand dollars off the table because of this and I can't say that I blame them one bit. I mean he quit and left LSU high and dry, why wouldn't he do it again? Come on!

What do you mean you retard? Unlike you, I didn't say anything that stupid. You did. So again, which ones that transferred said those were the reasons why they transferred. The answer is none of them did. Thus, the truth is you are full of crap because you are a retard. So accept the fact that you are a freaking retard!
