I did the same thing. Definitely need the win.

I still an't believe we got out of Morgantown with a win.
Winning against West Virginia has been the gift that keeps on giving this year.

We found a way to survive ourselves in that last minute. The Tigers did everything but shoot the ball in the basket for Ole Miss, that was too stressful. Our inbounds decisions at the end were awful throwing the ball into a double team in the corner is not what you do when inbounding the ball.

That was the worst possible position to be inbounding the ball especially when the opposition is in desperation press mode.

They did miss Gray on a down court streak on the first inbound. Guess Martin was afraid to chance it.

I am not sure that three man stack at the free throw line was best for that inbound. Maybe spread the court and see if they leave someone uncovered.

I I agree with all of this. It was a great win but I will get ulcers if we throw it in that sloppy again. I think that Martin should not be the person to throw the ball in. This isn't the first time he has been indecisive and waited too long and then threw it to the wrong person in the wrong place.

Of course why were Hornsby and the rest running to that corner in the first place.

Yeah I was discussing this with some buddies as well. They need to let someone else inbound the ball.

For the first time in years we actually looked very mature on the road

We clearly won because of our intensity in protecting the perimeter. I hope we can match that against teams that are less lopsided towards perimeter play.

I liked the substitutions in the first half as Martin and Mickey got decent rest. Despite the criticism of Malone, I thought he played decent defense and shaded to help where he could. Also the one turnover on the pass to Odo was clearly on the guy who threw it at his knees. The only criticism I had was that TQ never came out after he went in, despite having a horrible start to the game. Overall though, we finished up 4 at the half.

What is your opinion on how Jones handled the second half? I think Mickey got a 40 second breather and Martin may have played the whole game. TQ appeared to be in the whole 2nd half as well. I would prefer to have had Epps or Bridgewater (at the 3) or Malone start and bring TQ off the bench.

ETA: BTW, our guys now take the top 4 spots in the SEC in minutes played. Kinda funny how our 6th man averages nearly 39 minutes a game.

Rank Value Player Yr Ht Wt Gms Team
1 40.0 Jordan Mickey So 6-8 235 3 LSU
2 39.333 Keith Hornsby Jr 6-4 210 3 LSU
3 38.667 Tim Quarterman So 6-6 187 3 LSU
4 37.0 Jarell Martin So 6-10 236 3 LSU
5 36.0 Alex Caruso Jr 6-5 183 3 Texas A&M

This must be skewed a bit since we've had 3 OTs in 3 games.

I know UK has had 2 as well but they platoon like crazy. Not sure if anyone else has had even 2 OTs besides UGA.

This is a major concern as the season goes on. We have to try and put some teams away early, so we can rest starters late in games.

Exactly. We have 15 minutes more of play than most teams.

They haven't looked tired. I don't understand why people are all upset about it. Look at our 06 final four team... They had 4 players average over 30 minutes a game also if Im not mistaken.

Mitchel and Big Baby played 34 and 31 minutes respectively. Darryl Mitchell and Temple (guards) averaged 37 and 36 (SEC Play). We also lost to UCLA because our forwards were exhausted.

They didn't look too tired last night, but they have in other games. You can see they lose focus at times leading to silly errors and tend to give up big leads once they get them. We have also run into foul trouble late in the first halves of games when Martin and Mickey don't get breathers, especially Martin.

This last game it was more on the guards since Miss State was just hoisting up shots, but you could see that the perimeter defense of Hornsby and TQ tailed off in the 2nd.

ETA: I will say that it looked like Jones made an effort to sub more in the first half last night. I think it is a problem he recognizes and will work on. Unlike other head coaches who don't even see an issue.

A few teams have had OT games so far. Also Martin missed 2 OT's because he fouled out in both of the OT games and both he and Mickey had early foul trouble against Missouri. Yet Martin would still be the minutes leader in the SEC (by a full minute) if it wasn't for his teammates.

not that it matters a whole lot, but did anyone happen to see if TQ's dunk made SC's Top 10?

That's awesome. TQ skied. He should do that more often.

Reminds me of the Happy Gilmore hole in one... "That's so much easier than putting, I should just do that every time."

Let me just say this... I'll gladly take a final four loss because we were too tired this season.

They are 19-21 year olds who play 2 games every 7 days. Don't give me this "down the road it'll make them tired" bullcrap. There are 30 year olds in the NBA playing 30+ minutes a game and they have 3 games a week. Today they'll have a light practice, get soreness out, doing a little running, get the initial gameplan down. Tomorrow it will be a little lighter practice, then game Saturday and off on Sunday. Mickey and Martin are in extremely good shape. They aren't 260+ pounds and banging all game

Agreed. JJ drew up the double screen and go long play for Gray which was wide open. However Martin hesitated to make the pass and ultimately called a timeout. Gray was upset for a moment. I'm sure the coaches will spend some extra time on inbounding from the opponents corner.
