I am not a conspiracy buff, but this dawned on me after an interview a couple weeks ago between ESPN and Ben Simmons. Ben was asked how he was able to become a 6'9" point guard, to which he replied that his Dad always told him not to listen to his coaches coming up when they wanted him to play with his back to the basket. He said they always wanted to make him a post player, but his Dad insisted otherwise.

Ben's father is the man behind the curtain. He gets his buddy Patrick a job at LSU by offering Ben for one year, knowing full well that he can absolutely control JJ. Then he goes about telling Ben to showcase his strengths (passing, dribbling, court vision) while staying away from his weaknesses (mid range shooting), all the while minimizing the risk of injury.

May be far fetched, but ask yourself if Coach K or Calipari would be handling Ben this way. And before you crap on JJ - even JJ knows who the best player on the court is.

I kind of got blasted for this a week ago, but Ben is using this season as his pro combine. If his team wins and achieves its potential, great, but his mindset is first and foremost showing the NBA what he wants them to see and doing the minimum to do just that.

I see where you are coming from. A lot of parents believe they override coaches and know what is best for their child. CJJ has to be more agressive and asert himself. Plays soft/nice guy too much.

Nothing says doing the minimum quite like leading the team in points and rebounds and being possibly the first LSU player to average at least 20 and 10 in a season.

It's what I would tell him to do as a coach.

Please don't forget rebounding as one of his strengths.

He had 5 assists in the first half and the team was rolling. When we tried to isolate him more in the second half the entire offense stopped moving.

No different than the crazy saints fans who scream about Brees stats when he makes stupid money and throws to the other team more than his

Not blasting the guy at all.

But, it there have been a number of Tigers that were more fun to watch and appeared to have a much bigger impact on games than BS. Chris Jackson was very fun to watch.

I am not NBA scout, and do believe all the hype about his NBA potential, but the few times I have seen him play this year, it has not been very exciting.

Totally agree. I get blasted saying the same thing. Yes...Simmons will be great in the NBA. But his heart ain't in "winning for LSU". This is totally his practice/showcase for next year. You can see it in his body language and attitude on and off the court. Like the kid but he ain't "all in".

Throw in his 5 assists and nearly 2 steals per game. He is definitely a "once in a generation" player.

Michael Jordan averaged 17.7, 5 rb, 1.8 assists. But he was a chump too, huh? Tim Duncan was 16.5, 12.3, and 2.3

So explain why he didn't touch the ball the last 4+ minutes?

Look,so he is a once in a lifetime player and his numbers back this up.

But if you think Ben Simmons' play on the court is electrifying, think we for sure are in disagreement.

Yep. An electrifying player would, for instance, take people baseline and throw a reverse dunk down on the number one team in the nation.

Oh come on, it wasn't that hard to interpret...

Brees plays like shite and looses games, Saints fans scream stats.

Ben Simmons runs away from the ball in critical times, some LSU fans scream "BUT triple double!!"

Simmons isn't Magic or Bird. He's no Lebron. He's not even Lamar Odom. He's a very talented player though. He's not going to elevate a team to championship level.
