re: Questioning Joe Alleva's ability to make a good hire is ridiculious

The money or the amount is not the issue. Les did not take that much more money, but he did restart the clock on his buyout and he took less money for more years. He essentially made Alleva think he was being offered good will when he really made Miles unfireable. He also allowed his staff to become the highest paid in the country, costing close to 5 mill just in staff for a regime change, plus Les at 18.
At that time, Miles had the loss in the championship game and the QB issues (which have not been fixed). Miles wasn't going anywhere and didn't need to be extended. He was on the hot seat in 2010, buyout was too big, redeemed himself in 2011 only to embarrass LSU in front of the whole nation on Primetime. He did not have the goodwill for a new contract at the time and Alleva didn't have the stroke to deny the request. With the SEC money coming in now, Alleva doesn't answer to the boosters and the BOS like they once did. He is making this hire on his own; unless King Alexander gets involved. Alleva has not shown where he is able to make good decisions.
1. Duke LaCrosse should have prevented him from being hired.
2. Nikki Caldwell's contract, no way she should be making what she is. No one was beating down her door to pay her what we are. She won with Van's talent and hasn't improved as they graduated.
3. Miles didn't need to be extended, Ark was an excuse for Alleva to do it.
Overall, he has not much to show LSU's worth to the conference. He and Miles should be gone.

He is not a football consigliere.

I'd take Fuentes, Herman, Jimbo, Whittingham, Rhule or Smart right now. Without question. Maybe some others.
The ones you listed, besides Jimbo, are not going anywhere. You basically just said keep Miles unless LSU can't land a pipe dream coach. Try to remember Miles was 7-5 his last year at Oklahoma State.
This risk averse line of thinking is not going to beat Alabama. LSU needs something fresh. Something to ignite this program. Miles fatigue is real, and while I appreciate his accomplishments as a Tiger, I also realize that his era is coming to a close.
It's time to move on.
