Serious question, sorry if it has been noted.

I was just curious as to how unusual it is that LSU receive a #2 seed despite being ranked so high in the various rankings. Seems unusual, not that it matters much. I imagine that there is a logical answer, but I don't follow that closely.

Thanks in advance.

Answer: RPI and non-conference SOS.

We are THE #2 seed. Not a #2.

as in the #2 seed in the entire tournament.

we were a top 8 seed, which is all that matters... we don't leave BR until Omaha

it probably came down to a LSU-UCLA coin flip and it came up tails... oh well

If you listen to the head of the selection committee explain and justify their actions it comes down to them analysing every detail of a team's season. They almost always get something wrong but its fun hearing them explain their superior discernment abilities.

Rankings have little (or nothing) to do with seedings. The seedings are done by a committee, which might take into account the RPI, but there are many factors the committee uses to seed the teams.

My advice (and this applies to all sports) is to ignore voter polls. RPI has at least a shred of relevance, but not the voter polls, which are utter nonsense.

By the way, a no. 2 national seed is obviously a very high seed, so I wouldn't complain one bit about it. In reality, anywhere from 1-8 is great because it means we'd host not only the regional, but also the super-regional.

In reality top 8 only matters because after that the teams placed in a regional and the super regional tie in are mostly based on geography rather than a teams finish. just because you get the #1 seed it doesn't always mean you get the easiest super regional pairing.

It's rare the top eight seeds are the top eight teams in the country. It's even more rare to have the seeds in the correct order.

Forget EVERYTHING the selection committee claims because they're more interested in lining up future matches while avoiding others (within conference opponents) too quickly.

If it was done based on polls, RPI, SOS, etc. - LSU would've been the #1 seed and UCLA #2.

You'll be lucky to have five of the national seeds reach Omaha.
