Does the Administration at LSU have any legal authority to go after fans on social media sites for speaking crudely about players and coaches? I say no. but I've got someone saying the school can and will report slander and threats to law enforcement.

Threats are not the same as negativity.

So we can criticize the president but not the football team? Your friend is an idiot.

If you directly threaten or slander someone it can certainly come back at you in a legal way. It's gotta be an extreme/damaging case though.

I got this: If something is true, you can say it. If something is not true, and you know it, you're in trouble. If something is true, but you're not sure, you're still ok, but stupid. If something is true, but you say it in disrespectful or abusive way, your posting privileges will be suspended until you grovel.

You have to state something as fact that someone did when they in fact, did not. Then legal issues may come about.

In order to avoid that, simply insert "I think" or "IMO" and you're good.

Slander is not protected by freedom of speech. Personally, I felt some of the articles written about Hill last year could have been considered slander due to the embellishment of certain details.

It would be very tough because the university is a state actor meaning the first amendment directly applies to them. Would be a different situation with a private school.

For example, "Craig James killed 5 hookers while at SMU, allegedly" is allowed.

I'd love to see them try. Much mirth and ridicule would ensue.

Legit SLANDER can be reported but saying someone sucks isn't slander.

Threats are another animal. That shite would just be stupid and anyone doing it should feel the wrath.

Requires a knowingly false statement with intent to harm.

I think you're looking for defamation of character.

This person is going as far as to say "I wish Jennings would break his leg" is a threat. I just don't see it.
