I like this potential line up as well. Lots of length and scoring potential. Very hard to defend, especially if we stick to it and make people guard us, rather than us having to adapt. Scary good potential

Love this basketball talk in mid July
There have been as many as 3 threads on the first page in June and July on hoops. We are setting foot in unprecedented waters here.
I love it.

I think Victor becomes a starter by early January. Also, unless Robinson is drastically improved, Malone will continue to get solid minutes. Look for LSU's backcourt rotation to be the best in the SEC next year, especially considering Simmons as playing a lot of point forward.

Yup. CJJ deserves some fair criticism, but he's revived LSU basketball in a big way.
I was the one who posted his introductory press conference on 24/7 last week. Trying to get a name change, as I thought the account would just be temporary
Dude is my favorite coach at LSU and is at his dream job. Tough to not love the guy.
Any word on the assistant search? I wouldn't mind bringing leonard back until the coaching market opens back up next off-season....unless Jones has someone big in mind that'll leave this late in the game

You can see I obviously watched it... Just look at my signature quote.

I haven't heard a thing. Problem I see with just giving Leonard the job back is we have to be all in for this year. Too much talent.

It didn't get the views I would have hoped for, but you know how 24/7 is so football focused. a lot of those guys are in full fledged football mode.
Probably the GOAT LSU introductory press conference (though I've never heard skip's), and is just a video I think all LSU basketball fans, new and old, should take a look at

true. I'm still butthurt Treloar left us at the alter. The synergy of our staff could have been really special, but I'm optimistic jones can real in another big name

I would think he would go after another NBA type player. We play fast paced so the NBA guys who are used to playing that pace seem to fit best.

IMO, no way JJ starts an immobile, post-up center, unless it's just to throw people off the first couple minutes. He'll go with a 3 guard-2 forward or 3f 2g lineup.
Out, Epps.
In, Victor or Patterson.

I tend to agree with you, but Epps is the exact opposite of what you described. I'm sure you were speaking of Malone or Elbert, but I just wanted to clarify.
I'm very hopeful for Epps but he may be another year away from being a starter. We shall see how he's developed.

The kid is crazy raw with a ridiculously high ceiling. 6'9" guys with his athleticism and stroke don't just grow on trees.
I have a lot of faith Pinkins is going to do wonders at LSU. I still am a little surprise how little publicity his hiring got. shite, he doesn't even have a profile on lsusports yet

Apparently you're related to Aaron epps as you were the one who started the can epps average 20 ppg I believe

Boy, if I was running this team (which I'm obviously not….or am I?), I would love to see Benny running point, with spot ups like Blakeney and Hornsby on the perimeter. I would then have a rotation of Victor, Epps, Malone, Robinson, and Bridge playing down low for defense/rebounding.
Simmons will breakdown a lot of defenses and look to dish. I think people looking for him to takeover games scoring are going to be a bit disappointed in the beginning. He is a facilitator, and we have great compliments to his game on the wings with Hornsby, Blakeney, Patterson (if he shoots like he did toward the end of last season), and Quarterman. The odd guy out may be Gray. I do like him as a 5-7 minute guy to come in to add some scoring punch, but not sure it is going to work out that way.
Really excited about this season.

I've seen him play 6 times and this is my take as well. His biggest strengths are his vision, versatility and basketball IQ. He will get open people the ball consistently.
He needs some work on his perimeter jumper. Given what I've heard of him he will work and improve upon it.
He'll score some points but those expecting Chris Jackson scoring numbers, like you said...they will be disappointed, but they'll come around later when they see all what else he brings.

I think Epps starts at the 4 and Elbert or Darcy start at the 5 until Victor comes. I feel like that would give Ben a mismatch at the 3 with any team. Also a buddy of mine got to go to one of their practices and said gray was stroking 3s and Victor had a good jumpshot

I'm wondering if CJJ brings the press back. 2 years ago it was a pretty effective press and this team has loads of athleticism to pull it off.

If you're looking at it from a pure offensive perspective, then maybe. However, I'd be pretty worried having Epps and Malone be responsible for defending the post.
To me, your 3 most important players are Hornsby, Simmons and Quarterman. As long as those three are playing significant minutes, you can mix and match the rest.
Hornsby - Senior who is your best perimeter shooter. Maybe your best perimeter defender (see the Ole Miss games). Rebounds well for a guard. Something this team will need looking at what they have inside besides Simmons
Quarterman - Most versatile guy on the team. Can play and guard 3 positions. He gives you an opportunity to go with several different line ups and is not afraid to have the ball in his hands in big spots.
Simmons - Not much else to say. Potentially the most talented player in college basketball next season.

Agreed. But I think Simmons can guard the 4. He has gained muscle since getting here. And I'm expecting improvement from Darcy and Elbert to where one can play decent defense if need be.

G - Gray (though I could see Blakeney here as well)
G - Hornsby
G/F - Quarterman
F - Simmons
F - Malone
