If Ben Simmons is so good...why is the Team soooo BAD?

Pretty accurate.

Especially the part about the other freshman struggling and how those struggles won't last and those open shots will start to fall for them, especially Blakeney.

I was expecting growing pains early on in the season due to the fact that 3 freshman are playing a lot of minutes and we have been without Hornsby and Victor. This team will be much better in a month or so.

Why should they?? Both their men crashed down and big boy should have kicked the ball out to one of them instead of turning it over. Both of them were open.

That one gif is a microcosm of how poor the LSU coaching staff is at the actual x's and o's of the game. Unless you have your head up you arse or are just blinded by purple and gold optimism, you can see game in and game out that LSU clearly has no offensive structure. My God!! Epps gets the pass on the wing; dumps it inside; and THEN RUNS AND STANDS NEXT TO BLAKENEY. There are 3 guys literally standing still within 5 feet of one another. The offense is basically everyone just decide on your own where you want to go and what you want to do. LSU's half-court offense is as structured as a YMCA pick up game.

EDT: Epps has good physical talent and could be a solid player. However, 95% of time I don't think he has any clue whatsoever what he is doing out there.

It's a well written article and brings up all the reasons for their slow start. I just don't get how you write a whole article about LSU basketball's flaws up until now point out that they could miss the postseason and not mention that they are missing two starters.

I mean, we've struggled in these areas for a long time. Let's wait a lil longer than 7 games before declaring this team "so bad"

Blakeney misfiring is the biggest issue.

In that gif sampson shouldn't move. Gray should cut and him staying there stagnates blakeney and epps (granted we are always a clusterfrick in halfcourt) blakeney should reverse back to the other corner

Good news is it looks like posting up ben is near the top of our priorities now

I feel like we'll sneak into the tourney even with the slow start. Gotta get some big W's though and we'll have our chances outside of SEC play with Wake Forest and Oklahoma. The committee likes teams that are hot late in the season

Why is the gif not of poor defensive effort and technique and getting out rebounded? That's what their main issues are.

I was counting on Brendan Suhr to be an impact in this area. Guess it's not materializing.

They don't move and they don't crash the boards other than Simmons all the others are standing around watching. This is where not have Hornsby hurts a lot because even though he is 6'4 he is a very good rebounder.

I will say they moved much better against North Florida.

C'mon man! You comparing as a whole our 3 freshmen to UK's 3 freshmen or all their 5* freshmen

All their freshmen are basically all Ben Simmons's!

4 front court kids on scholarship don't belong here. Can't play.

That set in the gif is reliant on Robinson to drive and draw the defense in for the kick out to the perimeter. We ran that a lot with JOB3 and towards the end of the season he got the feel for passing and was racking up assists. Robinson will never be able to do that though

I don't know what 4 you are counting but I will say that Robinson and Malone just are not very good. Bridgewater has a lot of upside and needs to continue to get minutes. Dude balls on the court when he is out there and is a big body that we need under the basket. Epps is doing okay and just needs to get more minutes and needs to be way more physical. I do like the lineup we started against North Florida.

You mean like this one where you have a player who literally has no idea who he's guarding or even where the man he might be guarding is located?

Epps' kryptonite: the zone defense (I'm assuming it was our matchup zone, if I remember this play correctly. If it was man, I apologize). Bizarre that he struggles with that.

Malone isn't. Robinson has some skill for a guy his size. The problem is that he's just too slow for this level.

Right now (outside of Simmons of course) Bridgewater is the most skilled post player LSU has on the team. Frankly, Bridgewater is a good player. Unfortunately he's still 6'4". Try as he might, it's just too tall of an order to ask him to excel against guys who are 4-7 inches taller than him.

Epps has a few moments where he makes nice plays. He's gifted athletically. The downside (as you said) is that LSU needs guys to bang underneath the rim and he simply doesn't want to do it. He rather be a 6'9" wing with avg. shooting touch. This team doesn't need that.
