As bad as it is that Harris couldn't get his first start last weekend, there are reasons to be optimistic that Harris will rise to the challenge with Mississippi State. The first, which we all recognize is, that he has matured physically (gaining over 20 pounds), mentally (studied & learned the playbook), and relationally with the team (earning their trust & respect as a leader).

Another reason to feel good about this game is that since Harris and Prescott are friends, Brandon has a level of comfort in competing with Prescott. They were competitors in high school, Brandon got to play against him last year (with a level of success), and have been each looking forward to playing each other this year. That friendship/rivalry should take some of the pressure off Brandon as he mentally prepares for this game.

Lastly, I love this interview with Brandon about playing Dak.

You have to love the unpredictability of TR threads.

Harris has just as strong of an arm as Dak, if not stronger with better weapons around him. He should be very good Saturday night.

I'd be interested to know how many of you geniuses are nitpicking posters' use of words, compared to actually discussing the thread contents. Guess some people get off on analyzing every letter of a post to make themselves look like intellectuals.

MSU gave up 400+ yards to Southern Miss. Harris and Co. are about to have their coming out party.

Come on now, this is downright silly.

How so? You don't think familiarity and comfort with an opponent sets you at ease especially considering the pressure of your first start? Especially when it's a pretty competitive friendship?

sure, familiarity (from a football perspective: knowing the opponent's schemes, tendencies, etc.) may help, but being a pal with the opposing QB has no affect whatsoever.

If you watch the video I linked, you can see that Brandon is actually looking forward to competing with Dak. Sure, it's an intangible reason, but anything that makes an athlete want to compete more is an edge in my book.
