I have friends from Chicago who are huge Notre Dame fans. They insist that it is No-der and get insulted when I pronounce it No-tra. Therefore I always pronounce it No-tra with a special emphasis on the tra.

1 beer or less No-tra
more than 2 beers No-der
1 to 2 beers varies.

"Our Lady School." That's how one of the priests in "Knute Rockne All-American" referred to the school and have always gotten a kick out of it.

I think I actually may alternate the way I say it from time to time. I've probably said both a number of times.

It's hard for me to know now because I am aware of this now.. but I think I probably said Noder Dame, even though I recognize that isn't correct.

No-tra Dahm, the pronunciation goes, referring, of course, to the cathedral in Paris, or, as they say over there, Paree. In these parts, we say No-ter Dame, rhyming with rotor name, when referring to the nearby school where the fighters are Irish, not French. According to the Chicago Tribune.

No it's not. In South bend the overwhelming majority of people pronounce it as Notra to honor the french pronunciation of the word.
