Does anyone else feel that our poor PR & KR yardage could eventually hurt us? Against Oregon it was not as obvious because Wing boomed some punts but we have to improve in our return game. Will RS get the chance to return punts bc as much as i love TM i don't believe he is the answer in punt returns. I believe this is LSU's only obvious weakness. Thoughts?

There has to be better guys than Mo and Brooks to do that job.

If you know anything about LSU football you will know that in serious SEC games it becomes possession for possession! Field position plays a huge role in that! Against Oregon we were a Brad Wing booming punt+excellent play by TM to losing field position and being on our heels! It is very very important.

I expect to see shep returning kicks, but not punts. As long as we don't get a fumble on a punt return I'm fine. I don't know about sheps hands on PR, and we don't have anyone else as explosive as PP7 was last year back there.

It isn't a matter of who the return man is...it's more a matter of blocking. The return guys have no lanes to run through. This has been especially true for punt returns. The returner is catching the ball with 3-4 defenders within 5-10 yards of them. A returner is supposed to be able to make 1 man miss, but not 3 or 4.

I hear you i just feel it has to be improved or will cost us in possession for possession games.

Agreed...just don't think the returner is the problem. Better blocking is the answer IMO.

Don't have to look too deep because it's pretty obvious:

Punt Return Avg.
LSU 4.89 (88th nationally)

Kickoff Return Avg.
LSU 17.60 (111th nationally)

punt returner should be jarvis landry hands down.

mo is fast out there, but i'd rather see a guy like shep on the kick return. i actually thought brooks would be much better at this than he has been.

i agree that this is a blatant weakness. just think, we won games because we were good at this last year. my vote would be gore and/or shep to be involved in kick return. jarvis landry for punt return.

I think tm7 is doing fine, he hasn't fumbled a punt, and I haven't seen a return where he had a chance to get yardage. If he had some booming punts to return, or poor coverage, he will take it to the house......

I am much more concerned about our kickoff kicker. If we do all year what we did against Miss. st. it will likely cost us two football games atleast.

Our return teams get caught blocking in the back far too often.

WVU is allowing 47 yards on punt returns, so hopefully Shep can take one back for a TD.
