We lost Pops a couple of years ago. Today is his birthday. Because of the timing of this, during his lifetime, the LSU-Bama game was held, ON his birthday no fewer than 7 times, or approximately 10% of all of his birthdays. And aside from that, the game with within 5 or 6 days, either way, of his birthday most of the time he was alive.

Pops HATED Alabama with a deep abiding passion. As much as we all hate Ole Miss, Pops was in his prime years during the terrible streak during which Bama was undefeated for 30 years in Tiger Stadium, and we only pulled a game here and there at their place. He used to say, "Bear Bryant could throw his hat on the field and beat us" or "LSU has to be 10 times as good as Alabama to beat them by 3 points" - ironically, one of his last games to watch was the 2011 game. I guess dementia was a double-edged sword because he ended up not having clear memories of that game or the Mulligan.

So, at this time of year, I think of Pops and his hatred of Bama. And it makes me want us to win this game even more.
