A new and very large video board has been installed at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center
The Maravich Center will be home to the largest center hung videoboard in the nation!

Those PMAC renovations Alleva spoke of earlier this year? Here's LSU's new, massive scoreboard. A new court may be on the way too.
Here's what the old one looked like:

Soon, the PMAC could have more than just a new video board.
Imagine club level seating, possibly even suites and an expansive entrance lobby. Those are long-term plans for LSU’s 45-year old basketball arena, school officials revealed Monday during the Tiger Athletic Foundation’s Tiger Tour in Baton Rouge.
Architects have already been at work on possible plans for the arena, said Eddie Nunez, LSU’s deputy director of athletics in charge of projects. The two areas of emphasis are the entrance to the building, currently two ramps up to the second floor, and premium seating, which is nonexistent at the PMAC.
“We’ve already had some conceptual plans drawn up to see kind of how we make it better,” Nunez said. “We had some architects do some preliminary work. It is something we really need to do for that venue.” The arena is getting a new four-sided video board, suspended over midcourt, this summer. The HD-quality board is scheduled for installation in July, Nunez said.
There are plenty of other changes coming in the future. Athletic director Joe Alleva told the crowd on Monday that he’d like to raze the two ramps, replacing them, potentially, with escalators and constructing a “nice lobby in the front of the building.”
On the inside, officials are hoping to remove seating, possibly decreasing the 13,215 capacity, in order to add club or suite levels, Alleva and Nunez said. “It has to be modernized,” Alleva said of the PMAC.
“I’d like to build a club level at the PMAC. Just like in football and baseball we have club areas. We need a club area in the PMAC. Those will be plans we’re laying out here in the near future I hope.” The location of the club level is uncertain, Nunez said. The most illogical would be on the floor level because that would remove too many seats, he said. The ideal location is on the second or third (top) tier of the arena.
“The good part about it is our second level really isn’t a second level traditionally. It’s not far up,” Nunez said. “If you take that area ... Is that the best? Or is it the third level? Those are things (architects) are going to try to figure out.”

50% of the boards will be filled with advertisement equaling the already present size videos for replay.

Quite honestly, I think we need a new facility in a new location, like on the other side of Nicholson.
But baby steps I guess.

And it won't be ready in time, either.

We don't need a new arena. Would be a waste of money. A new arena isn't gonna attract more fans. A better product on the court will.

The new arena idea was pretty much thrown out the window when they decided to spend money on the practice facility addition.

It's a win-win to me at this point. I like an on campus facility, and Alleva has already said LSU can add club seating and suites. It sucks it'll never match the campus architecture, but lots of nice arenas are ugly on the exterior
Also we'll never build one given the practice facility is pretty new. we're not going to throw 10 million down the drain.

yeah the PMAC could use some sprucing up, but it would be a total waste to build a new one
Wade will have the house packed soon enough

Is anyone else a little concerned we're pulling an Auburn football with the largest video board in the country? The PMAC is pretty big, but I'm not sure the largest scoreboard in the country would work in the PMAC

IT's for Girls Gymnastics not Basketball

Would be nice if they just put a new paint job on the P Mac, updated the seating a bit, and gave the arena some better lighting . But I always loved the Mac. This video board will go a long way with the appearance though, we definetly don't need a new arena, that would be a waste.

This was my rank of things that needed to be done to the PMAC ASAP:
1 New Video Board (DONE)
2 Roof Painting/Cleaning (anyone know if there is a plan to clean this up? it is an absolute eyesore)
3 Flip the team benches to the opposite sides of the court. So that they can be seen on TV
4. change seating for student section and press
These are all very simple things that could be done. GET ER DONE!!

Could not care less. Spend the money elsewhere.

Not going to happen. LSU and Sports Properties want to full length advertising. Its one of the few (if not only) in the country and they get more revenue from having ads in the background once the camera pans to one side of the court vs only having it when the camera passes midcourt. I agree with you, its just NOT happening.

Agreed
