Playing Beat The Play Clock Is 100% On The Coaches

Numerous times lsu had to rush to get a play off and the offense often lined up with around five seconds on the play clock. And it's not the QB's fault. Practically every time Harris is looking and waiting for the call. A couple times he even moved his arms frantically, pleading for the sideline to give him the play while Cameron is looking at the menu and talking on his headset. He had to call a TO one time to prevent a delay of game on one particular occasion that completely killed a drive with momentum.
So why does this continue to happen? Is Cameron unable to process the decision fast enough? Is he conferring with another coach before he makes the call? Does he simply not know what play he should call? WTF is the problem?

Do people honestly think Cameron is calling this offense??? To answer your question, Cameron calls a play then Les argues it and overrides it then calls toss dive

Cam was seen on tv yesterday mouthing "the clock ran out?"
turrible

Yes, Cameron is not prepared with a game plan its obvious folks. Even a good youth coach calls plays that set up the next play or series.
Question: When your O-Line is struggling with pass protection on play action should you stick with something that isn't working or put Harris in a shot gun change it up?
Fire Mile/Cam immediately

Miles makes it extremely difficult to play QB at LSU. It's hard to be successful, and as a result, you have to take relentless criticism from a passionate fanbase (of course, only after that brief honeymoon period that every LSU QB initially gets). On that note, just so I'm clear, is Scott now the new "savior" of LSU's offense? Or have we just moved on to next year's freshman?

This shite has been going on since before Cam arrived. It's systemic.

When the offense isn't tailored to fit around what the qb does well, when they aren't allowed to go through progressions on receivers, when the line is average, these are the things that happen.

I literally laughed when I saw how big the play sheet was that Cam was holding. It reminded me of those grocery stores in North Korea that are only there for show.

Harris needs to have a code red set of plays to choose from for when this happens so they don't burn precious 2nd half timeouts.
Only use a handful of pesonnel groups anyways. It's possible once the play clock gets too low, Harris should be able to call a play from those similar to hurry up. (Unless a crucial 3rd down, etc)

I'm just at a loss as to how this offense fails at the basic functions year after year. And then I watch another guy on the sidelines, Lane Kiffin, who is in complete control with 100% confidence. The contrast is stark and depressing.
Harris has been starting games for now his third year at lsu. And he looks like he has made no progress in his development at all. He looks just like he did in his first action as a freshman against Auburn. Actually he is worse, because he has not developed and at the same time he has lost his confidence and fearlessness.
This offense is not working and it has not worked in a long time. And the soul sapping thing about all of this? Nothing will change.

the timeout they called at the end of the third seemed like they thought they'd be able to run out the game clock but if you looked at the clocks at the time, the game clock was behind by maybe 2 seconds or so.
then they realized it and frantically called timeout.
they wasted both timeouts in the third quarter on not getting the play in at a timely manner.
even after the harris pick, there was maybe a minute left. we might have been able to do something with 3 timeouts left.

If I had to choose, the opposite of a HUNH. Get a first down, huddle, pick a play every 3rd first down or such.
A little bit of backyard ball swag with these without a doubt highly skilled players just might do wonders... but in moderation.
But yes, what you're suggesting is basic strategy. It's not even that risky. It's not like LSU running the same plays out of multiple formations (Auburn, Bama, TCU) or running a butt load of plays out of the same formation (Oregon). We have staple plays out of some very familiar formations. For the record, it's less risky to run multiple plays out of the same formations because of ball exchanges.

Is Scott a pocket passer? There no savior to this team until we fricking stop recruiting dual option QBs for an I form offense. It's fricking mind-boggling that we continue to do this.

that's the unforgivable sin for miles and crew.
recruiting dual threat guys for their pro style attack and forcing them to adapt to it rather than adapting to their talents.

It's painfully obvious that all calls go through Miles. We really don't know if Cam sucks bc he really isn't deciding what plays to run. But hey he's making over a million a year to don a headset and hold a play sheet so why the hell should he care.

Not fitting the offense to the qbs strength for years now is the biggest problem I have. The other is not letting the QB have decision ability. We coddle them, dictate every playcall and they have no ability to call their own plays or look for the open receiver. Just throw to the guy we tell you. Thats the huge problem with the passing offense ever since the Jarrett Lee debacle turned Les into a pussy.

evolution of the qb position at LSU under miles.
or devolving of it.

CLM was quoted in today Advocate as saying " we had a play calling communication problem & it was not on the QB". As typical with the local press, there was no follow up question as to who, then, it was on.

This and so much more.
Something else that is typical Miles, 1:50 on the clock before half we are so lucky for the game to be only 3 zip and he has a 4th down decision that in usual Miles fashion just realized he has soooo your typical TO is called and this DA is going for it. Really!!!! The Badgers have one TO with a first time Starter QB and is as happy as can be that they have a lead at this point. The only and I repeat THE ONLY way they would try anything at that point in the game is if YOU GAVE them the ball on their side of the field.
And for you uneducated football fans who have never played and coached trust me when I tell you this has been going on for 11 years now!!!!!!!!
