How does a coach handle players that declare for the draft before the bowl game?

Does he give them less first team reps so as to develop other players for next year? Does he play them less in the bowl game than he normally would have?

Why declare for the draft before the bowl game?

You asked the same question 3 times basically. Seems you're leaning toward not wanting those players to play?

Flip side is those players can go out and make a statement and raise draft stocks. I would not be upset to see the youngsters play if we are up.

Obviously it depends on the situation and the bowl game.

If we talking a big time bowl that it's kind of a big deal to win...you set your horses free.

In O's situation, he should come out and try to give LSU the best chance of winning. I would guess

10% of the fan base will be against him no matter what.

15% of the fan base wasn't pleased with it, but will give him a chance.

75% of the fan base is all in for him.

If he goes out and shits the bed he will lose the 15% as well as another 5% who emotionally ride the wave from week to week.

Only a dumbfrick coach would sit his best players for a bowl game because they announced they were going pro. As Herm Edwards (and another poster) put it, you play to win the game.

Some people like to get it out of the way so they can focus on the game

A guy like LF7 is going to get hounded about it by everyone he knows till he announces.

It helps the team recruiting if these players look good and go high in the draft.

Why be childish and not let them play?

I'm sure they split more reps in bowl practices and understand that these are more for the guys returning next year. The reason guys are declaring now is the same reason the ones transferring now are. Obviously the coaches are asking them to see who needs to be replaced and for recruiting numbers and positions.

Young guys will get their reps.. Even if they aren't playin.. Let's hope we blow Louisville out so the young bucks can play in the 4th. Great game experience that would be

If nothing else I like it for recruiting purposes- HS WRs at least don't have to speculate on the depth chart...

I think one advantage, especially for a guy like Dupre moreso than Fournette, is to give a heads up to scouts who may want to come see some kore practice and pay more attention to the game.

You live for today and play the players who give you the best chance to win. You owe that to the rest of the team and the fans. Of course if it appears the player is not going all out and protecting himself from injury which might affect his draft status then you play the next guy up.

By declaring early it frees the team and the player from those distractions. It may also help recruiting if a recruit knows he has a better chance to start or play a significant role at that position which has just opened up.
