This will be my first time going there and was wondering where to go. Restaurants, bars, any other places of interest. TIA

Balls, just to say that you've been to a bar named Balls.

There is a hamburger place across from the stadium. I can't remember the name but it's a mom and pop place. I enjoyed the food. It's very busy so don't get in a rush. I googled it but can't remember the name. It's on West Univ Ave. I think it's the Swamp. It's an old 2 story building with the top floor open to see the downstairs area bar. Lot's of TV's. They have a giant burger with sunny side egg on it with other items as well. It was good.

Is Cafe Risqué (or Risqué Cafe) still in business? In my cloudy memory, it was a combo full nude club and Waffle House.

I can't remember what the name of the street is, but there is a street that kinda splits campus and runs right by the stadium. across from the stadium are a number of bars and food places that I found to be good places to hang out and drink and have food.
incidentally, open containers of alcohol are tolerated on one side of that street, but if you are caught with it on the other, you will be arrested, so figure out the deal and abide by the rules..

I think that is the place that I went to as well...spent most of the afternoon there and had a good time. there were a good number of LSU fans there, too.

The negative posters on here are dipshits.
I worked in Gainesville an entire summer, in the mid-1990s, as an engineering co-op (I am LSU-ME-1998). While I was there, one of the national magazines ranked Gainesville the second or third best place to live in the U.S. There are bike-paths, nice neighborhoods, nice parks, good restaurants, friendly people, and much more. The extent of the bike-path network was almost unheard of, in that region (possibly in all of the South), at that time.
I returned twice to see LSU play there since then, and once more, unrelated to CFB. And yes, some of the Gators on gameday (particularly after a UF loss) can be dickheads. A couple dudes wanted to fight me (and I was with my wife).
Anyway, yes, things have of course have changed since the mid-1990s, and the town is probably not a top-three livable place anymore, but Gainesville is still a nice place. Per your question, I highly recommend the Natural History Museum (on the south edge of campus, just off 34th - a major N/S street).
I can give you more tips too, or go here:

There is a place called Hogans Heroes just a couple miles north of campus. Go north on S.W. 13th St.(I'm sure the name of the street could change after you pass the campus) and its in a strip mall on the right. One of the best po boy type sandwiches I've ever had. Be careful when you order, it's a big sandwich, lots of meat and cheese.
If you are into camping/kayaking/hiking etc, there is a neat little sporting goods type store right next door. We spend about an hour in there every trip after we eat.
