After averaging 44 points and 5 assists per game Pistol Pete is the obvious #1 best Basketball Player to ever play at LSU. Between the other 2 who do you think is #2 and number 3. Even Shaq considers Chris Jackson better than himself. I don't buy it. Please comment your thoughts and add any player in the history of LSU basketball.

I'll go

1) Pistol
2) Chris
3) Shaq

I think Shaq had a better pro career but that is not your question.

Chris over Shaq.

Chris could take over a game, carry the team, score points in bunches, and kill it on free throws.

Shaq was strong in the paint but often in foul trouble and could not sink a free throw.

I'm gonna go with Shaq for his dominance on both ends of the floor. Stuff he did, like this, is just Godly

quote:

Set SEC record for most blocks in a season three consecutive years (115-1990, 140-1991, 157-1992). Set SEC record for career blocks with 412. Blocked five or more shots in a game 45 times in 90 career games.

quote:

Set SEC single game record with 12 blocks against Loyola Marymount in Feb. 1990. Blocked 11 shots against Brigham Young in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, setting a then-tournament standard for a single game, 1992.

11 blocks in the tourney, ridiculous

quote:

National leader in rebounding (14.7 average), 1991. Second nationally in rebounding (14.0 average), 1992.

quote:

First player to lead the Southeastern Conference in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and blocked shots in the same season, 1991. Led SEC in rebounding, field goal percentage, blocked shots and second in scoring, 1992. First player to lead the SEC in rebounding three straight seasons since Charles Barkley of Auburn, 1982-84.

1. Pistol Pete

2-4 Chris, Bob and Shaq could be listed in a number of different slots with good cause made for each.

1. Chris Jackson over PP. Pete couldn't play D or drive the paint like CJ. CJ was also one of the best dunkers I've ever seen for his size.
2. PP
3. Bob Petie
4 Shaq

Just started the Shaq video and wanted to cry. Look at the crowd at the PMAC. How fun was watching LSU basketball back then?

I understand your point... but when you own the all time scoring record and this without the benefit of a 3 point line...

no.

I personally think Pete and Chris are the two best college players of all time, at any school.

Chris is the best player I've ever seen on the college level.

No.
And it is not even close.

Saw Shaq and CJ in person many times.

1. Pete
2. Shaq
3. CJ
4. Petit

It is really hard to compare across time because of different rules and different styles of play.

Watching those links were fun. Sad though when you see the fan support back then versus now. We have as rich a history in basketball than anyone else in the SEC not spelled U.K.

If you took this list to an all time starting five, it would be...
PG Chris Jackson
SG Pisto Pete Maravich
F Durand Rudy Macklin
F Bob Petit
C Shaquille O'Neal

I was lucky to spend the '80s in BR going to school, and the PMAC with only your student ID was the bomb! My freshman year was the 80-81 final four team, I caught what I believe was the golden era of LSU basketball with Dale Brown. I saw CJ do things no other player still has been able to accomplish. We were down by four with little time left at Ole Miss, CJ went up for a three, hung in the air until the defender fouled him and he nailed the three and hit the FT. I was in awe.
