Pick ONE or the Other as far as importance when hiring a new head coach.

I'll take Steve Spurrier's perceived potential over Lou Holtz's achieved accomplishments circa 1991.

or Miles vs Herman

everyone just wants to sit there and say what Miles has done like 7 years ago. We have to project the next 7 years. Also using a blend of Achieved accomplishments like they did w/ Saban and Miles.

Exactly.

I just feel like if we don't get Herman right now, we will regret it for years to come.

In most cases, achieved accomplishments shows future potential, so I'd take an accomplished coach in the particular situation.
