Pat Forde's Top Players To Watch- Guice #7

7. Derrius Guice, RB, LSU. What if Leonard Fournette’s backup is better than Leonard Fournette? That may be the case with Guice, who actually was LSU’s leading rusher last year. Now that he’s not splitting carries with a top-five NFL pick, Guice could really put up some numbers as the centerpiece of what Ed Orgeron swears will be a new and improved offense.

1. Bo Scarbrough, RB, Alabama.
List is total crap.

11. Arden Key, DE, LSU. Mega-talent with mega-uncertainties. The 6-6, 238-pound Key set the school single-season sack record last year with 12, but he also was suspended for the Texas A&M game, left school last spring for “personal reasons,” had shoulder surgery and now is doubtful for the opener against BYU due to the shoulder, according to coach Ed Orgeron. No idea what happens next.

Bo was a horse at the end of the year. but he is injury plagued.
can he stay healthy for a full season?

The safety from FSU should be #1 on the list

Bo is a great back and could be like Derrick Henry, but based on what I've seen out of Guice, I'm not putting any RB ahead of him. Dude led the SEC in rushing, had the longest TD run ever for an LSU RB and broke the single-game record for yards in a game at LSU while playing in a pretty limited offense.

It's not a best players list, it's a players to watch list

Guice is great, but he's not better than Fournette. Just because he put up better stats in a year where Fournette was NEVER healthy doesn't make him better. He's very good, but it does a disservice to both players to keep repeating this.

Although it's hard to imagine, he could be better than Fournette. Guice averaged 8.5 ypc as a freshman and 7.6 ypc as a sophomore being the main back. Not even Fournette had a ypc that good after his first two years. Granted, every player and their grandma was trying to tackle Fournette. However, at the end of last year, teams knew Guice was the man and he was getting it and they still couldn't stop him. If he puts up huge numbers this year, it will be very debateable.

Sounds about right tho...

To be fair, Scarborough has the best chance of winning the Heisman based on Alabama's play over the last years.

With all due respect to Guice, the defenses he lit up last year were remarkably bad for SEC standards.
And our offense was limited in the passing game, but we've always been able to run the ball. The difference is, O likes to run up the score and pad stats with 37 freaking carries.

Take out both of Fournettes games against Alabama the last two seasons (Guice barely played them) and then run those numbers again. It won't be a surprise to see a huge spike in Fournettes numbers. No disrespect to Guice, but Fournette is simply different.

It's true that Guice hasn't gotten much of a shot against Bama, but I can't penalize him for that. He just had two carries last year for 8 yards against them.
But even against some of the better rush defenses we played, Guice did well. He only had three carries against Auburn and had 62 yards. Louisville finished right outside the top 10 in rush defense and they held Dalvin Cook to just over 50 yards, but Guice had 138 against them and was the Citrus Bowl MVP. There are only two players in SEC history to ever have over 250+ yards in two games and Guice is one of them. He is an impressive back. Even if you go back to his freshman year, it was Guice who turned the game around against aTm in the season finale with his 50-yard TD run when LSU was losing well into the 3rd quarter.
Fournette was an incredible back. It appears that we're lucky enough that Guice is as well.

This I can agree with

I have a pretty good idea;
Comes back for SEC play and tears shite up along side Chassion who's been tearing it up in his absence.

See, I think this is nonsense right here. Harris had over 1000 rushing yards, their 3rd string Jacob had almost 600, and Hurts had over 950. How in the hell is Bo going to get close to the amount of carries he'd need to win a heisman? Henry had almost 2000 yards and 23 TDs when he did win the heisman. He had 340 carries at that point, and the next highest guy had 72.
Using his per carry from last year he'd need 21+ carries a game to reach 1800 yards before the heisman is awarded. There is no way he gets enough.

Although fournette was injury plagued, I believe Guice can be better. I hate comparing them but I think Guice has more fire in his belly than Leonard.
