There are a couple of threads floating about on other parts of this board, but thought I'd bring this to the part of the board where I know LSU Fans are seeing it.
I made my hotel reservations when the schedule came out. Then waffled for the last 2 weeks on whether or not to come. And then I stopped. I mean c'mon it's Death Valley at night! #1 Atmosphere in College Football to see a game and tailgate. Weather is supposed to be amazing and Mizzou won't make this trip for another 12 years. So... here we come... letting my Freshman son skip school tomorrow, we leave tonight after school for the 13 hour drive!

I was told by the person I'm buying my ticket from that I can get into the purple lots on Friday after 4:30 and set up my tailgate (modest as it will be). Just leave my stuff or my car overnight and come back the next day. Is that true? She suggested by the Law School. Does anyone have strong opinions on that? I've looked the map over until I'm blue in the face and I don't understand where the Game-Game Parking is located... it say's blue, but I don't find any blue place on the map. Suggestions?

Looking forward to it. I'm bringing some Indianapolis/Indiana Micro-Brews as peace offerings at the tail-gates.... hoping to taste some of the amazing food i've been reading about all week, but bringing some of my own just in case this hospitality is just a big myth. ;-)

Sounds like you have it covered. Only thing I suggest is figuring out your exit path. Traffic is a nightmare after the game and you could be re-routed in a direction that takes you away from your destination.

Not trying to be picky but it is 5. I got yelled at trying to set up at 4:45 on the parade grounds so take that FWIW.

Id suggest setting up just frames and keep everything else in your car if you want. You can also buy a parking pass the next morning instead of leaving your car. Depends on where you want to set up.

If you dont want to pay then you can park around the Law school and Uhigh for free if you get there early enough. If you dont have much tailgating equipment, this wouldnt be a bad idea.

All parking info can be found here. I park and tailgate on the parade grounds and just pay the $40 fee to have everything right there in one location.

I don't need to pay to park if I'm parking in that purple area by the law school, right? Will I be able to get in there the next morning, say around 9:30-10 am? There are checkpoints and I heard they don't let you go certain places unless you have a pass...but if it's free "first come first serve" parking, how would I have a pass..

sorry for being obtuse...

The hayfield lot is a long walk to the stadium but it is a nice area to tailgate, you dont have to set up the day before and you can get there around 7-8 on gameday and set up, there is a tree line we back up to so we have shade and there is plenty port-a-jons. If you look at the map it shows the direction that traffic is sent coming out of each exit so if you plan it right and know which way to go just follow the map to the direction you need to go

Parking has become sort of Chinese arithmetic but I think you are correct.

I believe the law school lot and U-High lot are still free so you can leave your car there overnight without getting an overnight decal. Depending on where you are staying, that may be a good place to park either way.

I would urge you not to set up your own spot unless you are dead-set on it. I think you and your son will be better served to walk around and take it all in. You will be offered plenty of booze and food if you just go up and tell folks it is your first time at Death Valley. Peace offerings are not required but will always be accepted. The parade grounds are mostly college kids but the entire campus is one gigantic party. It's weird to even use the word "tailgate" because sitting on a tailgate with chips and sandwiches not even in the same universe as what occurs at LSU. Find a set-up with a giant trailer parked nearby and go introduce yourself. They'll be glad to have you. Try around the Indian Mounds.

Have a great time and enjoy!

If you're familiar with campus, a general rule of thumb is that anything east of Highland Road is free parking. Once you cross over Highland is where you start hitting checkpoints/needing a pass. You should have no issues parking either by the law school or the Ag Lot during the time you mentioned.

All purple on the parking map is free

I agree with Hoopy, if you want the full experience you most definitely should walk around campus and find a tailgate to join in. As long as you can take a little smack talk and laugh about it you will be brought in and fed good food and offered booze. If i was able to make it to this game id invite you but it is opening weekend of bow season so ill be watching it from the camp

It's also homecoming for LSU if you and your son want to join in on the festivities. The parade runs through campus and starts at 11am.

This really is the only way to go. Seriously.
I think you would be short changing yourself by sitting at your own tailgate.
Don't worry about the tent or food.
Walk around. Wear your team gear (mizzou, indy, whatever). Tell people you are here for the first time from out of town. You'll get tons of free food and alcohol. See why everyone says LSU is the best tailgating place. Enjoy the sights, sounds, smells, and eye candy.

Correct

Get there? yes. Park? Im not sure, it depends. I always say the earlier the better because you just never know what time the crowds will show.

You just cant go any further into camps at the dalrymple and highland light. Going away from campus isnt an issue.

As another suggested, I would urge you not to set up a tailgate. If you are traveling and dont have much of a crew to hang out with it isnt worth it. Take your son and walk around. How old is he? If old enough for you to allow him to drink then this is the best option.

You sound like you plan on parking near some of the best tailgates so just get there early, walk around, and dont be afraid to randomly go up to tailgates and chat it up.

Thank you for all of the feedback... keep it coming

It just feels so weird not to set up anything... or have any food i'm providing for myself. I usually have 3 of my son's with me so it's a little different this time i guess b/c its just one son with me.

ya'll sound very convincing and it echoes what i've read.... I guess I'll just go with it, not to mention i'm definitely not bringing a TV and there are a few good games on at noon and 3:30 so i'd be wise to cozy up to one of those set ups with huge flat screens (TD Village here i come... )

Where are you staying? That may help with the parking advice. You don't want to get stuck in contra flow after the game headed in the opposite direction from where you need to go.

I'll be right in front of the LSU Student Union on the parade grounds. Once I set up my tent frames Friday night I'll shoot you a message with where we are.

Also with this, keep in mind that there will be road closures due to the homecoming parade. I'd shoot for getting to campus closer to 10 rather than 11

Correct, any of the (purple) parking lots on that map are FREE gameday parking first come first serve, typically the spots at the law school start filling up by 9-10am.

If you want to park in any of the (blue) parking spots that is game by game parking on the map you can buy a pass for $40 at Alex Box Stadium on Friday afternoon which is behind the checkpoints.

Anything you want to set up for your tailgate do it after 5pm on Friday.

Staying at the Baton Rouge Marriott... it looks like the traffic flow parking by the Law school we send me out the direction I'd want to go anyway... is that right?

Don't set up your own tailgate. Seriously. Wear your gear, play along with the Tiger Baits, then eat their food and drink their beer. Walk around campus. Soak it in. Gonna be a good day
