We cannot blame the kids leaving. We play them early and the good players have done enough by 3rd year. They leave for money instead of eating ramen noodles in college. Lately the coaches are also using it as Recruitment pitch.

I was about to start a thread like this a few days ago. These kids are recruited and sold on the program by being told we can get you to the NFL.

That's a kids ultimate goal for even playing the sport, few are worried about a NC. This is the reality of it and it won't change.

Jamal Adams, Buga will be 3 and out too. Any Freshman who did good will leave by junior year

I'd rather recruit 3 star players who won't see the field until their junior year. We would have that luxury of playing mostly underclassmen if we didn't lose 8 underclassmen every year.

Instead we recruit 4 and 5 star players who leave as soon as they have a honorable mention all-sec season.

Defensive players don't want to return to be sold out by a shitty offense for another year

I know LSU has a bad tract record for this, but I think we'll be seeing this more and more in other schools as well. The WR/CB that committed to USC at the Army American game had the gall to say that he'll be "spending his next THREE (3) years" at USC. This mindset is ingrained in the heads of the top players and until more and more of them start to go undrafted, get cut, etc..., then it's going to get worse, not better. I was hoping the new draft eval would change this, but it hasn't, yet.

Yea, look at all those championship winning teams built with 3 star talent.

I've thought this, but I didn't post b/c I don't really know.

what are you basing this argument on? Actual knowledge?

This trend will start to end with this group of juniors. There are no Hills, Beckhams, Landrys, or Mettenbergers in the group. When they start to see players going undrafted and not making NFL rosters, then they will stop leaving too early. Or maybe not. To paraphrase OSU's Jones, they didn't go to LSU to play school.

Yes, this is our recruiting pitch. I thought the NFL grading system would help, but some kids are 3 n out regardless of their draft grade.

if that is the case, and the pitch, then throw the attrition excuses out the window.

but the rant has assured me that Miles only plays upperclassmen, even if we have a freshman who is clearly a billion times better

Agree 100%.
It would be fascinating if we could recruit an entire class with the same level of talent and sell them on redshirting.

Yeah I don't know why people are still surprised. I expect anyone eligible to go, if you expect anything else you're just gonna be disappointed.

College ball is the "minor leagues" for the NFL. Why would a kid want to stay in the minors for an extra year of playing for NO PAY ?

Football is a violent sport, the faster you can get paid for playing is better, I guess.

This

Anyone trying to act like this is an LSU "problem" and that its LSU/Les' fault for recruiting like this are seriously blind to the way big time college programs work. Hate to break it to you, but those (90% of them) kids playing on Saturday night didnt come here for a 4 year degree. They came here to try and get to the NFL and win as many games as they can in doing so

Well the "young, inexperienced talent" at LSU just lost 5 games and looks to be sprinting to the NFL draft.
