It's great but it's in the wrong positions, so what if we are ranked with a top 5 class each year if it's mostly top rated DB's and WR's that inflate the ranking. Just looking at Bama's class this year is a clear indication of what's wrong, they have tons of OL, DT, and LB's that make up their top recruits....which is our problem when we lose, yet we are ranked higher than them in recruiting. I say that to mention that the fans saying Les's team is equal in talent to Saban's are wrong, having 6 great DB's and 6 great WR's and 4 great RB's doesn't help you win games when you elude to how much talent we have.

Recruiting ratings in general are pretty overrated.

No it's not. We've lost so many to injury and early departures and suspensions.

It's no secret our recruiting priorities have been Wack the last few years. Recruiting outside in instead of inside out. The game starts in the trenches and that's where depth is most important

Agree 100%, but our delusional fanbase that just looks at team rankings and thinks we have equal talent is just wrong...I love having great DB's but if you don't have great interior players you aren't going to beat the SEC teams that have beat us this year.

How come LSU leads for the most players on NFL rosters?
Maybe they are under utilized or under coached while at LSU but once they make an NFL roster their true talent is utilized.

Seems we sign a lot of H- back TE types, yet when one from each position goes out the whole offense is screwed.

I disagree, but the op has a point I believe.

In addition to how our stars are skewed to certain select positions, there's one thing no rating service can tell you: how well an individual player can be coached up.

I believe for several years now, the Tiger staff has done a so-so job in this crucial area. Yes, we have the most players in the NFL, that's nice. But what about the 90% who didn't make the NFL but had significant playing time as Tigers? How well did these guys play?

In recent years, Arky, Miss St. and OM have done a better job of coaching up their players, and it shows on the field.

agreed 100%, our recruiting is great but not in the right positions to beat big SEC teams

We arguably had the best OL recruiting class last year. And have done well recruiting OL before that.

It's the QB spot and having undersized DL with no depth that is the problem. Our starting DTs are good, but they have to play so many snaps that they are exhausted by the end of the 3rd quarter. Herron finally seems to be emerging though, so that's good.

And believe it or not, but we've signed highly rated QBs in the past as well. Harris, Jennings, Rettig, Mett, and even JJ were pretty highly touted QBs out of high school. Our problem is developing them.

This won the dumbest post of the year award. There is no university that has more talent in the NFL than LSU.

None.

At DT, we're going into next year with 3 JRs and 1SR as of right now. We'll get thin quick if one or two of these JRs (Herron) go pro. We can't miss this year at DT, nor can we afford attrition at that position. We have 2 commits right now I think.

If you would have just said that our recruiting in the trenches hasn't been on par with teams like Alabama then I'd agree. Louisiana does have more highly ranked skill positions than big uglies. Last year's haul on the offensive line was solid though.

We let the best two offensive linemen in the last few years get out of the state to auburn and bama

Skill positions are fine, but otherwise we are thin on depth up front in both sides
