Last night's display of acceptance of mediocrity should be no surprise to anyone. After all this is the same fanbase that gave Stony Brook a victory lap.

11/28/15, the date LSU accepted mediocrity as successful in football.

OP:

Just give it up. All of your observations are completely justified and valid. However, your entire perspective is quite wrong. Let me tell you why.

Your observations and comments would be completely on point if LSU were a pro football team. LSU is NOT a pro football organization. It's not run like an NFL franchise. The expectations are not the same as one would see for an NFL team.

LSU football is an amateur football program where college kids play football in exchange for a free education and enough national exposure to give them a good shot at playing for the NFL one day.

Stop thinking of LSU football as some kind of pro football endeavor, because in the NFL, each team has one and only one goal -- to win the Superbowl. When an owner loses confidence in his Head Coach's ability to win the SB, the HC is fired.

The LSU football program does not exist solely to win National Championships. There are many other competing reasons and purposes for its existence, such as, mentoring young athletes, providing a football team that brings students and alumni together during the fall, representing LSU well and making money. Those are the main purposes of the LSU football program.

Any championships or awards are nice to have and very welcome, but, these accolades are ancillary indicia of success in football competition, but they are not indicators of how well LSU football does in those other, JUST AS IMPORTANT areas. Those other main areas that I mention are just as important, but, there are no trophies for mentoring a student, visiting a sick kid, being a respected and beloved part of the LSU community, and so forth.

So, stop expecting LSU football to be something it is not. It's an amateur sporting endeavor that represents a State University, not a pro football franchise.

There are a few college football programs that have the same demands that are placed on an NFL team, but, LSU is not one of those programs.

No...you're wrong. It exists to win championships. You play to win the game. You're the problem

you are absolutely spot on with your observation except for the fact that the HC and his team are paid millions to perform. If you owned a business, would you continue to pay large salaries to your VP of sales if sales continued to plummet in the midst of advancing competition or just succumb to accepting that you were once valid?

Did this guy have a prepared response typed out?

If not, he typed all that out in under 2 minutes which is unlikely but would be very impressive.

In all areas, not only on the field, as Champagne already addressed. We are putting players through a degree program and into the NFL (sometimes both), we are active in the community and are among the winningest programs in the country under Miles's tenure.

Winning championships is one of the many, many goals of the team every year, but it is lagniappe.

I'll bite Champagne...

Why can't you expect both Champagne?

So i guess you would be happy with an average record as long as we are making money, visiting sick kids and helping young guys grow to be men, right?

Is their a trend in a SEC record that would make you say it is time to move on, just curious?

What if he didn't go visit sick kids, would that do it for you?

Don't blame the fans, fool.

Blame the Administration and backers. Jimbo said no and they had nothing else working.

No guts..no glory.

NO. Don't make the mistake of thinking that I agree with the idea of running LSU football like an amateur program for student athletes. I believe in Excellence and Championships. I am from the Vince Lombardi School of Football Philosophy.

Vince Lombardi would have a stroke right now if he were alive and an LSU season ticket holder. Wait, did I say ONE stroke? No, he would have had about 100 strokes by now.

Lombardi demanded absolute perfection from every coach and every player. He believed that in the pursuit of perfection, the Team will achieve Excellence.

LSU's football philosophy is VERY different from Lombardi's and that's why myself and many other observers of LSU football are often out-of-step with a huge faction of the LSU fanbase.

I don't want to rant on much further, but, in closing, I will say that LSU football is very obviously an amateur student-athlete program whose objectives and purposes are quite appropriate for a school that exists to provide a college education for adolescents.
