With about 7-8 minutes left to go in the 2nd half last night, this team gave up. If this team can not play with effort JJ needs to be let go immediately. There were multiple possessions at the end of the game where players were not sprinting back. This is an embarrassment to the university.

I think you meant to write:

I think the effort has been there in previous games. We just lacked coaching. Last night we just out right gave up, just said frick it. I don't think these players know how to play hard. We are never on the floor for loose balls, we always get back back on defense, and we get out rebounded a ton. Playing hard with great effort can handle a lot of those issues.

The extent of Johnny Jones' defensive coaching is to try and convince the guys that defense is important. They don't implement fundamental defensive concepts. Dribble penetration from outside of the 3 point line is waaaaaaay too easy and simply results in layups. They give up the baseline drive all of the time. If they just stopped doing that, they'd be much better than they are now. Some of the things you just can't fix. We're out manned down low against a good post player.

Furthermore, while I think his "defense is effort" strategy is stupid, he's failed to even get the guys to play defense with energy. In other words, his scheme and his ability to motivate have both been a failure.

The truth is that I had very little expectations coming into this season. However, a few things broke Johnny's way during the offseason. Sampson seems to have stepped his game up a bunch. And, Duop Reath is a legitimate difference maker from a talent standpoint. Add Blakeny's progression, and Victor' steadiness, and this team actually looked to be much better than I had expected...and I had some belief that Jones would make it through this by outperforming the expectations.

Obviously, it has fallen apart. It's just a matter of time now.

Unfortunately it has fallen apart. I hate to see anyone fail, especially someone like Coach Jones who has such a long history with the program.

Wouldn't know! Quit watching at 15-2! Peeked every now and then in 2nd half, kinda like watching a train wreck!

This team needs 5 starters with the heart of Keith Hornsby. Then, maybe we'll compete again.

You are certainly dead on. Just free spending money. Keep JJ , in fact renew and stretch out contract with a raise. Seems to be the standard for PoorOleJoe .

Seemed to me after that 17-8 run to pull within 6 points and A&M locked down and started pulling back away is when they quit. you could feel the energy leave them.

JJ teams do not play defense AT ALL. Have not since he got here. There is no hustle, no fire, or discipline. Those qualities come from the coach teaching it and he apparently has not.

And not only that, he is also an extremely nice guy and good person. It's a shame it hasn't worked out. With any success on the court, he could have been a great recruiter and ambassador for LSU.
