Considering everyone (at least all the smart guys on this board) knew O wasn't the best guy for the job AND it's not like he had a resounding endorsement from the powers that be.....perhaps O is smart enough to understand how impatient LSU fans are and a good buyout clause protects against trigger happy administrators.

We all know why O wanted a buyout. Question is why Alleva is dumb enough to give it to him with no leverage.
Answer: because Alleva knows if Orgeron failed, his own fate was likely sealed as well. So a large buyout in the first two years buys Orgeron and himself a few years.

What I've been saying all along. It's the only explanation that makes any sense.
Could it backfire on Alleva? Sure. And I hope it does. But I really don't think he was counting on it.

One thing is for sure, LSU needs better lawyers.

Alleva is such a damned joke.

Why hasn’t Alleva been fired yet ?

But this deal passed through the board of supervisors for final approval....
I guess no one saw a problem with it.
they probably don't give a sh*t. they know if anything goes south, it will be Alleva's head rolling, not theirs.
The board probably rubber stamps whatever comes across their desk.

If this was really a part of Alleva's thought process, he's dumber than most give him credit for. Alleva's fate is tied to Orgeron's success or failure in the first season. If things end as bad as they look now, he won't make it through the year. Orgeron's buyout only "guarantees" Orgeron two years, not Alleva.

We all need to hope and pray (trollface) that some program hires Miles at the end of this season and pays him well, then we will only have to pay one buyout to get rid of this assclown.

Alleva had the upper hand. All you have to say is, who else is offering? Yeah that's what I thought.

How the frick does O have any leverage to negotiate that?
Posted on 10/6/17 at 9:19 am to BayouCowboy
Now you know why O called this his "dream job".

This is basically all Orgeron is doing outside of managing the face of the program.
He's failing miserably at that.

CLM leveraged Michigan to get HIS $$$$ from Alleva, and now Orgeron is the second coach to outwit Alleva.

Because Alleva didn't have a 3rd candidate after Jimbo played the situation to suck more $$$ out of Florida State, and Herman wanted Texas all along. Alleva had no other options prepared.

At least there was the perceived potential that Miles could leave for Michigan. The Ogeron negotiations should have literally been an un-outwitable situation for Alleva. The "negotiations" should have taken 5 minutes:
Alleva: Ed, we want you to be the LSU HC. We're going to pay you $2 million per (ONLY because it would look bad if we paid the coordinators more than the HC)
Ed: Thanks Joe, but I want $4 million per.
Alleva: Go get that from the other power conf. schools NOT offering you a HC job.
Ed: Ok. But I want my contract fully guaranteed.
Alleva: Again. Go get that from the other power conf. schools NOT offering you a HC job
Ed. Ok. But I want a drum that says "One Team. One Heartbeat."
Alleva: Fine. We'll see if the band has any old drums they're looking to get rid of.
